New owner, two questions

Since I can't do a search, what is the revised colored spring used on the Dexter trailer brakes that fits Horizontally across the adjuster?

Boy this is a new one on me. I have always considered electric brakes as kinda of voodo. But done quite of bit of work on them. Please tell me about the colors of springs. Thanks Jim

Blue springs bad!

Apparently the blue springs break at very un opportune times, like when the trailer's moving or stopped.

Dexter knows this and (if IRC), will send the red ones to you if you have the blue ones and ask for the red ones. :D

I think most dealers know about this. My '96 Escaper had the reds and when I did the brakes the kit came with the blues.

You need to tell them what size your brakes are.

Get the red ones ASAP

You wont believe the damage that can happen when that one little light blue spring pops. Just replaced the whole brake assembly on my Aljo. Blew one drum and scrambled the works. I had just inspected mine 6 months prior to it failing. You wont know it till it goes.

Replaced Springs

Did a bearing repack job on all 4, one of the Blue springs was broke and hanging by the hooked end. Glad it didn't scramble the works. What a job installing a new spring without disassembling the whole brake system. It pays to repack your bearings every 12k miles as recommended.
