How do you know when it is time to replace the bearings since there is no way to grease them? Would you say after 5 years if the vehicle was not towed regularly etc. Thanks, Ron

You can take them apart for relube if careful. Remove the drum with bearing, lay cap side down on a piece of clean wood, look in the spindle bore in the bearing and use a large screwdriver to tap the one half of the bearing and seal out. Clean and relube both halves in the same manner, tap the seals back in place. Reinstall the drum and torque the nut, good to go.

Ron,

Dexter Nevr-Lubes come with a five year 100k warranty IIRC. I've heard of several failures earlier than that so would not count on five years of service or 100k miles of service either. Service life probably depends on weight of trailer, roads traveled, and freuquency of 90* backing turns the trailer was subjected to.

I think the owner's manual states that the way to identify excessive wear is to lift the wheel to take the weight off and grasp the tire at each side and move the tire and wheel back and forth if possible. A spec for movement is provided. I don't remember what it is. Common sense and comparison of all four or six would probably help id a loose one. Leaking grease would be a telltale sign.

You can call or email Dexter and ask for instruction sheet and other information on their products. Dexter engineers read TDR and support their website and their customers. Dexter is a quality operation.

Harvey, thats a great idea. . I will email/contact Dexter and get their advice and technical support.

Thanks, Ron B
