Competition How many are coming to SEMA?

Competition Diesel Nationals @ IRP

I came up with an idea about some new events for the DHRA. How about next year at INDY... . we get some 10K-15K trailers and then hook em up at the dragway and find out ( in stock and or modified form ) who does the best towing.

DHRA would have to find a dealer to donate the stock trucks to let them do the testing. Unless they had someone they knew that would be willing to give them a truck to try.

I remember the commercial with the Ford towing the horse trailer against a Chevy, but you never see Ford going up against a Cummins. So..... lets find out who does what at the track. Make sure your TV, ESPN and Extreme 4x4 are there to tape it !

If the trailer weighs are the same, no excuses for those who come in last.

Put Chevy Ford Dodge all against each other and see what happens.

Comments ?

I think I would load the traliers so the combined weight is the same, so weigh the trucks and load the traliers so all of them weight 15K lbs. I bet the dodge would walk away big time.

You grab one side Matt I'll get the other side! I'll even bring my own Infrared thermometer!

Heck you could do that with Modified trucks! The Phord guys talk like they can pull better, the Chebby guys say they are better than the Phords, and We of course know the CTD would walk, but what better way to get it on national TV!?

Josh

I don't think my Actron branded infrared thermometer (discontinued?) will register high enough to see how hot brakes would get - I seem to recall a ~500°F limit.

It works great for most automotive temperature reading applications and even better to find cold spots in the house... unless you have an infrared imager laying around. :)

Come'on Matt, there has to be like 1/2 mile of runway left ( at least at INDY ) for them to get stopped. I just want to see something different than the same ole thing drag racing. Line em up, equal weight on the trailers and let the trucks do the talking..... I doubt Eric will go for that but , he might .

Ok, this is so close to the ideal that I have been discussing with a few on here, NHRA nixed the trailer pull as too dangerous, but here is what some gas guys are doing. Hot Rod magazine has a race at 5 different tracks, the car has to drive the entire way and pull in to the staging lanes and run, not changing parts. This whole trip comprises about 1000 miles total in a week period of time. What if we have equal trailers, and get some one to sponsor that trailer parts of this like PACE or FEATHERLITE, the truck hitch up to the trailers and go on a 100 mile route before the race, minimum speed is the posted speed. Then its to the staging lanes and run down the track. May distant could be its 20 miles and they have to do it before each round, that would be a test of real world trucks . Make each trailer weight so 5000 lbs

5000lbs? My Dad's half ton used to pull that much around. These are 3/4 and 1 ton trucks! Make them work like they are supposed to be worked! I kinda like it, from one track race, to the next, race to the next, race. Person with the best overall time and best on track times. Each truck has an "official" riding with to assure they aren't doing anything illegal while going from one track to the next... ... humm... . The Ironman of the Diesel world?! Maybe have them sled pull at one of the locations... ... Make it a real competition!

TOO Dangerous..... :-laf

Lets see, a stock truck can do the 1/4 mile in , what..... 80 mph, I would guess is avg. Put on 10,000 lb trailer and I bet you would be lucky to see 60 mph. The reason for the post was to try and do what they did on TV when Ford and Chevy lined up pulling Horse trailers. So, lets do the same here, only put (even the gassers, if they want too :-laf ) the big three up in a controlled environment , equal weight, and go for it.

It wouldn't matter to me if or what the trans or gearing is... . whoever had the best time. If it would please the track, run one at a time, to satisfy the safety requirements.

As much as I like sledpulling it isn't consistant enough to yield valid results. Too many variables. I think it would be hard to get a track to agree to let a 7500lb truck and a 10k lb trailer onto their racing surface. Tracks spend alot of time and money on engineering the perfect racing surface and "I" personally wouldn't want to be responsible for tearing it up. mabie a better idea on a closed road where there is plenty of shutdown room and less chance of something getting screwed up?

Ah, he wont show for the DHRA events, let alone pull a 10 K trailer.

I still like the "IronTruck" idea..... Make it a multi-event. 10,000lbs trailer, 1000miles, drag race and sled pull. I'm not saying to drag race with the trailer, although I'm sure the start would be intresting... . (staged start, 5 min appart) Have to "punch" different locations. Heck even up the antie... and make them keep track of their fuel recipts!

Josh

For me, I pulled my Teton from Milner to Indianapolis, and thats for enough for me. I towed my trailer with 410 HP and felt like the hitch was going to be ripped out of the bed. 1/4 mile more?

. . PT. .
