DHRA in Indy...?? for a first timer

It will be my first time going to Indy for the DHRA event. Is there anything that I should make sure I see and anything that is a waste of time? Good off site attractions? Im planning on leaving Friday morning with 4 other guys and just wanted to make sure we see everything. Also is there a good or bad hotel to stay at? Do I need to purchase any tickets before hand or is everything available when we get there? Any input would be appreciated. From what I hear and have read it should be a great time and well worth the drive.
