The rulebook says the exhaust must be "Upward and Rearward". I read this to say that stack/s are mandatory.

Is my interpretation correct?

I bet it supposed to read upward OR rearward so as to not cause a threat (choke to death) to the guy in the lane next to you. :D

No matter what, if you get far enough front it aint going to matter to much :D

Eric's wife just had a baby so he may not be around for a bit to answer this. What I believe they are trying to say is not pointed down. The reason for the rule is to miminize problems with the timing systems. Heavy smoking trucks that are pointing the smoke towards the staging lights cause all sorts of problems with timing runs properly.

If you have excessive smoke that causes the timing lights to "black out" not giving you or the person in the other lane a legitimate time you will be disqualified. We recommend that you install a turn down tip to prevent it. It is a suggestion only, not safety related as of yet. It interrupts the flow of racing and is not fair the the person racing in the opposing lane.
