Jeff I think what you are experiencing is a driveline torque induced vibration. Are you way down in the RPM say 1500 or so and then feeding it some big throttle?? If so there's nothing wrong with the truck, yet. Your feeling the driveline vibrating in the carrier bearing.

Here's the scoop. Evidently there will be a charge to "unlock" the Puck as you were told. After that, you can tune the puck one time or ten thousand times at tno charge. This unlocking fee is to pay for the software. The estimate cost of this is about $150. 00. I have no need to make money on this, so my customers will get my price on this if they like. It'll just be a service I give. Based on the estimated price, my price would be about 80. 00. Don't quote me on this as this is an estimate at this time.
Sorry for not having real complete info.

Will the Real Puck Testers please step forward

Welllll! I guess I am the third tester as the only 1 puck available was sold and two of us tested that one (actually all three if you count the guy who ended up with it). Now, all I can say is WOW. I did notice some pretty impressive improvement without load. I have a 5 speed and can wind it up to high rpm's if need be - and I did just that.

However, a word of caution. I think the high rpm's I wound up or the extra boost maybe, popped the sleeve loose on my turbo intake (the one down low on the right front between two pipes). I did not know this until last week but I did ask Bob Riley when I got back from test driving the puck what the buzzing vibration I heard was and he had no idea. It appears the clamps had been loose from the gitgo and this event just made the sleeve pop loose enough for me to loose all turbo boost the last 3 months. Two of 3 of my local dealers do not work on Turbo's and said take it to Cummins. I took it to Cummins Southeast Power, who said as long as the engine is under warranty it still belongs to Chrysler and they can't touch it, but they were kind enough to ask a tech to look at it for a minute and he went straight to the problem clamp, re-aligned and tightened it, plus checked the other clamps.

I would like to know more about the puck or EZ or whatever chip would be best for a basic power increase for a 99 24v 5Sp 3. 54 QCab with Hauler Bed (8K of truck), without over boosting, over fueling, setting off alarms, etc. Comments, Suggestions?

I looked at the Puck but went with the BD version of the VA. I could not be more pleased. The rest of the story is: I purchased a heavier 5th wheel and was worried that my 3/4 ton might not pull it. At the urging of my local Cummins dealer, I had him to install the Cumming/Mopar upgrade ECM for $900. I helped a lot, but the mountains in Wasington needed lots of 3rd gear with my NV 4500. At Quartzite, the owner of BD was there and I purchased the VA from him with his offer to take it back if I did not like it.

I liked it a lot! Only now the clutch slipped in 4th. I had a new clutch installed, but still slips if I push too hard. Very evident I need to upgrade my clutch.

I second the VA

The VA www.vanaaken.com is an awesome upgrade for towing a load. The power is all through the RPM range.

And on sale now for $399. 00 the price is unbeatable!

BTW I tow a 30' Mallard 5er with dual slides and stand up bedroom.

Hmm, Interesting. So basicly everyone is happy with what ever box they got. I debated what to get etc... . I went with all the happy customers feedback with the EZ. I pull about 5-7k 4 days a week about 1000 miles a week. I pull over several passes here in the cascades and have never had to take my truck out of overdrive since I got the EZ. . I just could not beleave it when I hit that first grade and insteading of losing speed i had plenty of power to keep going up in speed. It sounds like all these boxes preform very similer. So take your pick. Maby get the one with the best customer service and price. The only thing I have herd from my mechanic is that he has worked on a few trucks with the VA and say they tend to over fuel. Thats my . 02

I'm Pucked and I love it

ok, I love my Power Puck, but my Clutch does not.

The vibration I have read about in the previous posts is gear clash in the transmition caused from lugging the engine. The Puck is very aggressive in the lower rpm's so you have to be careful not to lug the engine. I try to keep it above 1800 rpm when loaded. with my current BOMB's I have hit 1150F on the pyro, keep in mind that this was on a 80F day and humidity was very high. Normally I max out at 1000 before I back off, there is more power available, but I would rather save the drivetrain and what is left of my clutch. Normal driving is great, I can pass traffic at will, and have GOBBS of TQ left over for fun.

Yes there is smoke. :D If I let the turbo die, I can kill thousnads of mosquitoes. Once the turbo comes up, the smoke goes away the truck rockets forward like a bat out of he11 and if I am not careful my clutch can go up in smoke. There is a very healthy hit in the powerband at 1900 rpm that can spin the tires if traction is not good, I just love it (I have had this happen in 6th gear on wet pavement when the clutch was grabbier. )

Towing it is great 17000# and never had to downshift due to lack of power.

I have given MikeR, Bob V, and Vaughn MacKenzie rides in my truck and they were all very impressed, Vaughn even thinks it may be faster than his two wheel drive ETH with DD-2's... ... once I have a new clutch we will have to do a little highway testing to make sure ;)

WOT, Whereabout in Chillicothe are you? I live in Frankfort, OH. It's good to see a local person on TDR. Thanks.

Chris

P. S. Sorry, but i don't have any info on the power puck. I have a PE EZ on the way and can't wait to play with it.
