I haven't tried their Comp box but do recommend that you speak with Diesel Dynamics about their rebadged Edge products built to DD's spec's. DD understands the Cummins ISB and how to test aftermarket products. Also call Chip at Blue Chip, he pioneered the fueling box and has tested several boxes He may recommend a different brand for different a application such a an ETH or your ETC engine. He sold more then one brand the last that I checked. Some companies can't even tell you how much their product advances timing and timing is very important as you add further mod's such as injectors, large turbo housings, tow heavy loads and (especially)use propane. I'll still try new products as they become available but I've had no problem with my Blue Chip/Diablo Puck and I know that Chip will provide great service and updates.

If the Puck or EZ will be your only engine modification, you will be happy with either of them or several other brand of boxes too. Sorry for the rant but JMHO and hope this helps. :) :)

you can call dd if you want, but edge programs the box for them. the timing is the same in the 2 boxes. chip does know his stuff, but i tested a edge comp box vs a fms blue box.

the edge comp made 10 more peak hp. but at 2200 rpm it made 84 more hp. i always try to have the best products on my truck and i'm always trying new things. so far the comp gives the most hp. and it's the least expensive box.

diesel freak

my only experienece with the puck is on my friends truck. he and his dad both bought new eth's one had the puck, and the other had the ez. they race all the time and the ez was outrunning the puck by 3-4 truck lenghts from 50-100mph. so he traded the puck in for a ez and now it's a dead race. maybe the puck wasn't working right, i'm not sure.

utah

take that $100 you are saving and get the comp. it gives you control in the cab, and when your ready you can hook up the pump wire. unless the ez is as far as you will go. i started with the ez and it's been all downhill since:cool: .

further confusion

then there is the Dynosources Raptor. a "hacked" EZ with better numbers and a lifetime guarantee... ... ...

Diablo Puck

:)..... The Edge Comp arrives from Missoula in a few days..... The Puck was $795... . the Comp... $675. That buys a lot of Beefeater's :p

$795 for the Puck??

Utah,

You were getting hosed! The guy selling you that Puck for $795 was making a FAT profit... . :--)

You just saved yourself over $100 and got yourself an extra 60 ADJUSTABLE hp. Not bad, eh?;)

Utha,

I hate dealers hosing people:mad:  They are a bunch of good ones out there that will treat you right and give you fair prices.

I bought a bunch of stuff from www.smokindiesel.com (Advance diesel technology) Andy and Doug will do you right, they're awsome and prices are good too! I'm just telling you this 'cause I know you ain't gonna stop at the Comp, don't ask why I know... ... ... .  :D

i'll echo glenn (heeeeyyyy, glenn, how in the health are ya?) doug and andy are good folks to deal with, and will help you out price wise. www.smokindiesel.com.

disclaimer. not associated... ... . ah you know the rest!!

btw, there's STILL a comp in my truck's future... ... ... after a new heat pump. :(

ouch... that is high..... mine was not even $600

Rapptor numbers

guess i'm not part of the "we". i don't KNOW what the real numbers are, but their website shows 75 HP gain, and about 250 lb/ft of torque. most of the figures i've seen for the EZ are about 60 HP and 180 torque. since i've never seen either one tested , i'm just like will rogers... ..... all i know is what i read... ... .

Do not believe everything you read..... the Raptor has to abide by the same "pump limit" as all other CPC type boxes... ... Dyno Sources is full of doo doo.

Not a real comparison

Cuminnststrkn,

I didn't look up your old post regarding the Blue Chip FMS/Comp test but do remember thinking that the Comp should have shown much more horsepower then a FMS alone. Do you know that the FMS doesn't have a timing feature or the low fueling that a Puck, EZ, or the non pump tap side of the Comp?? Most everyone knows that to convert excess fuel into horsepower our ISBs need advanced timing. Even the 12 valve CTD's have retarded timing. I'm not knocking the Comp at all but do hope that you will test the FMS in conjunction with a Puck, EZ, or VA and see how it compares with the Comp. The FMS costs serious dollars but for a better day/night display then SPA and more features then a Comp plus full set SPA digital guages. I admit being hooked on all the gadgits. The recording tachometer is a great tuning tool. The FMS on my '98. 5 has made over 500 RWHP with only medium sized injectors and retains great trailer towing qualities/driveability. While I don't feel particularly horsepower challenged:cool: I would sacrifice a couple hp to keep the super smooth power of my present setup. Some of the "major" fueling boxes lurch , buck, stress turbos and render the cruise control useless.

I don't knock other people setups and certainly hope that we can do fair comparisons for the benefit of our 24 valve wonders ,

;) . I own and love some of our undervalved cousins but am convinced that we have

not found the upper hp limits of the ISB/VP44. What a mission:)

here is the thread.

to see the chart you have to click on my ram picks below and go into dyno charts.

like i said there is nothing wrong with the fms blue box it does have some great features. but the only feature i care about is hp. why should someone have to spend twice as much and only recieve the same outcome? the blue box won't defuel at low rpm's to help keep the smoke down from big injectors like the comp does.

if the fms box was a little cleaner i might be interested in one, but i don't want to hang that bulky box off my dash. i think it's a great idea. i like the way the tst looks becuase the guages are mounted remotely.

people can make up there own mind but i can only talk about my experience.
