Only on cold days, initial start of the day. Does this till warmed up. If I drive it before it warms up it will surge till warmed up, if it's too cold and idles too long it will throw a message. If I drive off before warmed up, and give it too much fuel it will cut off. I almost have to idle through gears for about two minutes. Once warmed up, no issues and drives perfect. Always starts w no issue. It only threw a message once during extended idle while stumbling.

Did I see 12,000 some odd miles on the odometer of a 2015 truck? Isn't that truck under warranty?
Just curious why it isn't the dealer you are asking???
Bruce

Because when I last went to the dealer, they said they just needed to reflash it. So they did. They told me it was fixed. Start truck up next morning, same issue. Went to another dealer, they said to leave it over the weekend so it would have a good chance of replicating the issue. Unfortunatey, it has been above 45 degrees since then and it never happened again till last night coming home from work. I will revisit the dealer, but I would like some working knowledge since there are no messages in the computer. I work 3 jobs and use my truck for 2 and need it to get to the third. I don't have much time to sit with it at the dealer so if I can say hey, check this out and point them in the right direction. I know I should not have to do that, but if it helps fix it and keep my downtime down I will.

Bummer!
Maker you show them the video when you head in again.
I've had good luck using videos to focus a technician on the issue. There is no question that something is happening at that point.
Good luck
Bruce

I'd almost think it could be a faulty FCA on the CP3.....

My G56 Cummins has always had micro surges that play with the drivline lash (when cold & clutch fully engaged) and is most noticable up to 3rd gear & sometimes 4th gear at low rpm. But i always attributed that to the nature of a cold running diesel. I always considered it normal. Once warmed up, i get completely smooth operation. I have found the block heater helps.

Don't have kne
All Cummins engines have the block heater, I guess you just don't have the cord. Geno's Garage is an inexpensive place to get one. I'm not sure if it will help YOUR problem, but its inexpensive and a nice option to have on those chilly mornings regardless. Please keep us advised on what your dealer says. Thankfully I haven't had a single issue with my truck!

My 2013 throws a code every time the engine appears to hiccup. Simetimes it clears itself. Sometimes i clear it with my code reader. If it (the code) doesn't come back, i just forget about it. If it's below a half tank of DEF on the gauge, add some DEF. Bob4x4 gave us the heads up on that awhile back. In terms of ....if the DEF is low, it won't run certain internal diagnostics.

There is no reason to plug in at 40F ! He has a real problem that's going to require a decent tech. Keep us informed.

Grid Heater? I've heard if they are not working properly, it can cause rough idle at cool start.

Can't be fuel system if running OK when warm.

I don't have that big of a rough idle problem when below 45 degrees. But I do have a small amount of stutter.

It's my first diesel. So I'm still learning.

Yea, got it. That's why I clearly wrote The OP incorrectly stated he didn't have a block heater. I was trying to clear up confusion.

Your right, I was incorrect. I should have stated the obvious, all the Rams now a days have a block heater already installed in the block. I don't have a cord, but either way I don't have he ability to plug it and I shouldn't have to.
