Dialup website speed.

I am at a cross roads to renew my membership in that I have been a TDR member for several years now and the information and content on TDR is outstanding and VERY informative. Kudo's to the administrators and mods. as well as the great posts and articles from the members.



My issue is that ever since the website software "upgrade" (and as a dialup members I use that term VERY loosely ), the speed with which the TDR website loads up has slowed to a crawl compared to before. I tried to live with the PDA/dialup feature for awhile but I found it very bare bones and still slow.



What is in the website software upgrade that slowed the page load up speed so drastically?



Is there something that can be done to improve the page load up speed NOT using the PDA/dialup feature? Thanks.

Have you tried using firefox? It's FAR FAR faster than IE.

No, but I don't think switching to another browser will make that big of a difference. TDR seems to be the slowest of any website I frequent. I have new computer coming soon which will have Windows Vista. From what I have read about Vista, this may or may not be a step forward. We'll see.

Vista may very well be slower - it comes with IE7 and IE7 is far slower than IE6 was. Firefox WILL make a significant difference - especially for dial up users. It cache's pages much better than IE for one - so stuff that ie is downloading over and over again firefox will just take off your hard drive. You may also have a problem with your IE that is causing problems with javascript - this forum software uses a lot of javascript - over 100k per page. Why not give it a try and see how it works for you? Firefox is a far better browser than ie and I've yet to hear of anyone after trying it that went back to ie.

seriously, firefox is like driving a diesel, you take it for a spin once and you never go back, but with firefox its a free download, and all the mods you could dream of for it, well, those are free downloads, too, so in that way, it is nothing like owning a diesel
