Oil change interval question

When I tried out the truck, I popped the clutch in dirt and all four wheels spun in the dirt, two times in a row. But the computer printout at the Dodge dealer shows no limited slip option. Furthermore he said the the Dana 80 didn't have a limited slip option. What gives? Can I not get limited slip for the Dana 80? Without 4WD, I NEED limited slip!

I have a 97 1 ton that has the Dana 80 rear end and ordered it with the limited slip option. I don't know if it is still offered as an option but don't know of any reason it wouldn't be. I have the number for Dana technical if you wanted to call them on any questions. I called them several years ago about what oil they shipped the rear ends with, since our local DC mechanic was down so hard on synthetics. Said he could always tell when synthetic was used vrs. the petroleum based that was in the rear end when it shipped. he was wrong, it shipped from Dana with synthetic in it.

What are your rear end ratios?

When I was looking for a 2wd/4wd truck I never saw anti spin(limited slip) in the 3. 54 ratio just the 4. 10 even though members say they have them.

jsimpson, not unusual to get both rear tires or all 4 tires spining, depends how much pedal you put into take off or how fast you let clutch out. As long as tires have a little traction and forward movement they will spin. ( Used to drive 68 4-dr fury II 318 engine in highschool and beyond. I used to lay rubber 8 ft long with both wheels and it would get out on the highway run at 80+ all day. It was my parents car that we(kids) were allowed to drive and take care of, actually we had use of a beat up opel kadet also and it would lay rubber with both wheels too but not as much. ) Neither car had limited slip.

Usually on bottom side of front of hood is list of standard and options components ( color paint /number used on truck... ).

My ratio is 3. 54 and it's a LSD. Your right, there is a code under the hood but I don't remember what it is. I'd look but my truck is at the body shop for repairs after a tread separation.

I ordered my truck and as I remember the 4. 10 required you to order the LSD but I know it was available on the 3. 54 as I have it on mine.

The tag under my hood only shows paintand trim colors.

Jack up one side on the rear. Trans in N, e-brake off. If you can spin the tire (by hand), it is an open rear, if you can't, it's limited slip.

You can also jack the whole back end up, trans in neutral brake off, front wheel chocked, spin one of the tires by hand if both rotate the same direction you have limited slip (anti spin, closed rear end) if they rotate opposite direction no limited slip(open rear end).

Either way will work one side or both (if you have floor jack).

jsimpson, if you don't have it which you probably don't because they should be able to tell by VIN.

Consider a ARB locker or there is supposed to be elecrtic locker on market, and they are putting hydraulic lockers in the Dodges for the Marines.

I have been thinking about the electric or hydraulic(if I can find some) for both front and rear in near future. I have no limited slip.

Front diff doesn't have limited slip they just have a 900 plus piece of metal sitting over the the axle. Front tires will have great traction unless going thru muck or gumbo( maybe very loose sand but you can air down for sand). You probably knew about front diff already.

My front tires have zero traction. Of course I have two wheel drive though. :D I need wider front wheels and tires for flotation. Those front tires bog down pretty quickly!
