The old KTA Special

Looks good bill. Did they tell you how much it flowed? Get it on and get us some numbers.

Dave, I was wondering when someone would post a reply LOL. I was thinking about changing my sig and including, 'have fuel, need air' LOL.

Don't worry, it probly won't go on til spring time. I don't have the air and with cold weather around the corner, I don't need all the fuel going out the stacks unburned. Also I don't really want to beat up my 35 if I'm gonna use it in a twin setup... . Then again the suspense might kill me and I'll change my mind and go with a bigger single:) and install it.

Here is where it started: http://www.diesel-central.com/forums/default.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=2549. The man is Brian Block, aka KTA-Cummins.

Ok change of plans, I'm gonna install it as soon as I get a pump wrench from Snap-on. Hmm wonder if I'm off Labor day... . that would be a good time to do it. I'll just keep the fuel screw out a good ways and the starwheel up high :-laf til I get more air. Also think I'll order an electric fuel pressure gauge this time from Westach. I'll want to make sure my sexy piston lift pump can feed the hungry VE. I might even put my old nonIC'd injection lines back on since they're bigger. Errr wait, I think I gave all my inj line holders/clamps to DP!!

Poor lil hx35/16 is really gonna be hating life now :-laf ... Zoom zoom!

Backroad... that is a larger high pressure head for our VE's... . the internals are alot bigger to push more fuel so there is some hope of reaching over 600RWHP... . which BTW, Brian has done on his ole girl... .

pb... .

I was wondering this when that thread first started over at d-central. Could you do the 14mm head and "de-tune" the pump to "near" stock levels? I would think that this would allow the pump to just "loaf" along without much strain on it, and when you wanted some serious HP/TQ... it`s just a turn of the screw away... . or am I nuts?(again, lol).

Brian said that is exactly what he did at first to break his pump in. Ran it detuned before opening it up for the big numbers. It will be interesting to see how it runs with a hx35 truck. He told me I should install it now instead of waiting. My 89 pump sat since Feb this year and already had some rust inside it. Said best place for a pump is on something full of fuel. I said fair enough, I'll get it on asap.

They ? LOL, Brian actually put this together for me. He doesn't have access to a flow bench so we don't know. Of course if I took it to Scheids, they'd want to take it apart, rebuild it before putting it on their stand. Which is more $$. Who better than the man himself to put one together for you :D. As always though with high performance stuff you never know how it will work if at all. So if it craters, its not a knock against Brian, IMO.

Did you say "sexy" piston lift pump? :-laf You're killin' me. :) I hope you like the new rotor head. 14mm = almost enough fuel! Oo.

From what I read on the other web site, this pump setup is strickly for the "hotrod" guys and not for those of us who tow heavy. Correct me if'n I'm wrong.

"... . The 14mm pump seems to work well while towing ... ... " :-laf :-laf

ya but how do you explain the singe marks on the front of the truck... hmmm... ;);)... . I bet you'll be lookin fer heat tiles next... . do they have any good used one's on Ebay. . ;):D

pb...

ps: I just watched a "small head" VE bang up against the 500 barrier on #2 only... . kinda cool to see... . absolutely DEADLY on the street though... . nasy. . :D:D:D

Brian Block has a 93 W350 with an hx40 and this 14mm pump on it. He tows a gooseneck trailer with George Paterson's 2nd gen pulling truck on it. Figure thats what, 20,000lbs? I bet if you use your head, pyro and right foot, one could tow just fine with a 'hot' setup.
