Hello all, driving down the road the other day, rowing through the gears, in my own little world, when I hit fifth, and it kinda crunched going in... just a bit, but it brought me to, and I left the clutch in, immediately went to neutral, and back in, went in fine.

Is there any way I hit reverse? I wasn't slamming gears, just motoring along, and can't believe it would have been that easy.

Thanks in advance... Michael

Wrong gear

Based on my experience, I would vote for having hit 3rd gear. Reverse is such a different ratio that I sincerely doubt you hit it, plus, though I am not a transmission person, wouldn't the reverse gears be rotating the other way ?. .

I suspect you hit 3rd.....

I agree with the other guys.

Had you really notched into reverse, you would have really noticed it big time.

Doubt seriously it would be possible to get reverse gear engaged at speed.

However, if you really try hard enough, it can be done. Very noisy, and not much left afterwards... Do you hear the birdies talking behind my shoulders? :D

I did that once on a A-747 4-speed. Trying to impress someone and missed 4th gear, when the clutch was released hard trying to get some 4th gear scratch..... uh, well, I got a hard slide into the berm. 2nd gear was the only survivor, limped home with hurt ego. :{ :{ :{

You may have bumped reverse just enough for it to grind and then went into 5th.
I will go with XJSuperman on the reverse deal,I have done it myself,the nv 5600 takes a little concentration to row through the gears,when going from 4 to5 and accidentally going to 3 the syncro's will do their job and make the change most of the time,then the r's go through the roof,actually you will hear the syncro's wind up trying to make the change.

I've ground some gears once in a while if I don't get the clutch all the way in. I've also hit reverse, but it definitely won't go in.

I once accidentally went to 1st instead of 3rd. Ouch. No grinding at the transmission, but I barely corrected before the RPM went past 3000. Scary.
