No need to apologize. I was just pointing out the reason why I do not prefill. I'm sure others do it for the same reason also. And yes, it doesn't take too much effort too make sure that any debris when removing the cap on the oil jug doesn't fall into the jug.

1) I have the dealer do my oil changes; I'm sure they don't prefill the filter.

2) I don't change the oil every 3000 miles ( more like 5K or more)

3) I don't do extended warm-up before driving

4) I don't do extended cool-down before shutting it off

5) I don't even have guages

I do operate fully within the guidelines of the owner's manual for service intervals, weight, etc.

Is my truck going to fall apart before I die?

nope. If you maintain your truck exactly as stated in the manual, then your truck is guarenteed to last for the time period specified by the manual. in reality it will probably outlast you...

that we are even discussing pre- or no pre- filled filters is evidence that we don't have enough to talk about. the CTD is too reliable :D

I used to buy my oil, Pennzoil 15-40 Supreme duty by the 55 gallon drum, but since they only offer it as the Euro blend plus extra $$$$ I now buy the Long Life 15W-40 in 5 gallon buckets. Dropping foil is not really a concern as the drum/buckets do nut have it.

I recommend if you prefill the filter than at least strain it to to be safe as ther has been posts on debri on the jugs.
