Got up the other day and I had to get the snow off my new Dodge to get to work. Well I used one of those extendable snow removal brushes to get the snow off the windows and the hood. You know the kind, they sometimes have a built in ice scraper on the other end. Well I started thinking to myself... you know that brush was pretty stiff. You guys think I put some scratches in my hood? I was taking it really easy, but I do think that the brush came across the hood a few times.

no, just give it a good bath and hand rub with a good wax when the weather gets better. the acid in the snow is worse over time.

Just to make ya feel better

A college buddy of mine told me that when he was somewheres around 5yrs old he washed his dad's pickup for him. He wanted to get all the dirt so he used a... .

wire brush.   :-laf

My truck is Silver, I have not washed it yet so I can't tell if I scratched the clear coat. I know you guys are thinking this is silly, but hey I paid allot for it! Just had a brain fart moment early in the morning before the coffee kicked in. I think I can just give it a good hard waxing after a wash and she should be ok.

You should be okay. Being silver you probably won't be able to tell unless you get it in the sunlight just right. You'll probably have some light scratches in the clear, those are easily rubbed out with some good wax(I'm a fan of the Meguiars #26). If the wax doesn't cut it you can try Meguiar's Scratch X. It works real well on the smaller/lighter scratches. It is formulated for hand application so you won't need a buffer to put it on. If you have a buffer or know someone who does, then Meguiar's Swirl Remover 2. 0 is what I would use if the Scratch X or wax doesn't get it. If you use either one of the swirl remover products make sure to wipe down the area polished VERY WELL before waxing(Meguiars quick detailer or final inspection are good for that). If you don't get all of the polish off it can actually scratch the paint. Plus it doesn't have the same characteristics as the wax.

I know this sounds like a Meguiar's add but I really just love their products!

Once when I was working for a dealer, the lot guy cleaned the snow off every car on the lot with a shop floor broom. The brush didn't do any damage, but it had this cross brace on the brush head that was bolted to the handle with a "U" bolt that had the threads facing down. You can guess what every car looked like.

Silver??

I think you'll be alright. I use TR3 Resin Glaze on my 05,Silver and White are about the only color you can use it on due to the hazy appearance you get when you first apply it.

That being said the TR3 will fill in all the little imperfections. ;)

Mac

Being in Houston we don't get snow or ice very much. I took a window ice scraper to my dad's paint when I was little.

I've got a boy coming in about 7 weeks. Note to self: teach him about car care as soon as he is mobile even if he can't talk!

ACF, best product for your situation is Klasse all-in-one was invented by a german chemist it will remove surface scratches along with a host of other problems. Its also a paint sealant and will last for about 6 to 8 months against salt sun and industrial fallout. You can put it on by hand or machine. Then apply a good coat of wax some of the better ones over the counter are meguiars nxt or zymol. Generally waxes will only last about 4 to 6 months depending on where you live(weather) and if vehicle is garaged. Make sure you wax the flat surfaces hood and top every 3 to 4 months those areas take the most abuse. You most likely will have to order klasse on line. Hope this post helps you out.

We have a serivce here called "Arizona Pin Striping". What you do is drive down one of the many narrow dirt roads in the desert. After a few miles, the nice little pointy things that grow on ever plant around here do a number on your paint job and you are now an official resident of Arizona.

Back in the early 50s my then-4-year-old cousin was helping his dad out in the garage. His dad was getting everything together to wax his new Mercury. My cousin (hidden on the other side) was brush-painting the black car with aluminum paint.

i somewhat fear that scratching too... so usually only my glass gets cleared, and the hood gets cleared when 80kph is achieved and the roof usually is clear by the time i get to work ;)

Hell I've used a shovel to clean the snow off trucks before and never had an issue. Not cleaning 2-3feet off with a little broom.

Will the German stuff work on heavier scratches? I just drove through the desert and really did a MAJOR scratch job on my truck. It's a black truck - Turtlewax has a wax with black coloring, has anyone tried colored waxes?
