Did I learn my exhaust system lesson?

Any Twin Turbo kits that utilize the stock HX35?

SPA gauges?

I searched old forum threads. I just want to know if I understand everything correctly (yes, I'm one of those damn newbys!).

I have a True Flow intake on my '06 Mega Cab. I am now looking at exhaust systems. I'm not planning to do any REAL performance mods. From what I understand, I don't need a full system. I should be able to replace my stock muffler with an Aero Turbine or MBRP muffler (just examples) and get greater airflow, lower egts a little, get a little quicker spool up, and mybe a fraction mpg improvement. Yes, the Kitty will stay put. Am I correct?

Kill the cat and put on your choice of strait through muffler.

Magnaflow

MBRP

Silverline

Etc...

But skip the Aero Turbine. Too pricey for the results.

But if cost is no object, then by all means.

When you kill the kitty just be sure to keep it around so that should one day you need it. Voila two welds and your back in business.

Or cut the pipe behind the cat, gut the cat, and weld the pipe back on. No more kitty but it still looks legit. In other words something similar to "The lights on on but nobody's home".

I've had a few diesl hotrods, and a few cammed gasser, and our '05 4-door dually sounds just awesome with the cat, and a magnaflow muffler. Close to stock at idle, a low volume throaty sound at 2,200RPM, and picked up 2MPG.

Interior drone is near non-exsistent.

I vote for a Magnaflow, and leave the Cat. Gives it a deep tuned truck sound. No "Rice" like the catless trucks have.

Muffler shop told me the Muffler makes 30Lbs backpressure and the Cat only 5.

Not on a third gen. A straight pipe sounds horrible. Based on personal experience. :D

Must all be in the ears of the beholder, I agree with you but my son thinks its cool. :-laf

To All,

Thanks for your input. This is my first diesel, and it is nice to have such a great resource to get information from. Like I said, the True Flow is on, and I am pleased with it. I am researching mufflers now. I will decide on one and order it in a few weeks. Thanks again. :D

I installer a 4" muffler delete pipe from Geno's (still have kitty) and it works great. The pipe cost about $100. 00, and I installed it myself. As far as sound goes, deep tone, a little louder and a little power upgrade. for the money (as far as a 06' goes the muffler delete is the best bang for the buck. Down the road I could see doing more but I would need a turbo upgrade another things first.

I have not put a heavy load yet, but my set up has little or no drone.

There is a little around 1200-1500 rpm if you press the gas down as far as you can without down shifting. But the good news is at freeway speeds (70-75mph, 1800-2200rpm) it is drone free. That is based on driving without a load.
