Transmission Temp Question

On my 3rd generation truck I removed the ABS sensor and used the hypodermic needle accessory for the end of the grease gun. It was tougher than I thought to get a few pumps of grease into the hub.

I had my low mileage unit bearings apart on my 2nd gen truck a few years ago and I was horrified at how little grease there was in there. If the P.O. had driven the truck to the extent I drive it now they never would have lasted. I drilled and tapped the housing and installed a grease zerk, cleaned them up and pressed them back together and pumped 30-40 shots in each side while spinning them. I could literally hear and feel the difference just by turning them by hand after they were greased.

On my 04 I drilled out the Abs sensor bolt and welded a grease nipple on the head of bolt. I also drilled the rotor so that I can get grease gun onto nipple any time I have the front wheel off. My originals lasted about 160K miles and had never been greased.

Ok, here's the results, I did a pan drain at 6K also so most the trans fluid has 16K looks good, The oil We'll I will have to look into why some of the levels were so high. I dropped the factory fill at 6K,So 9K on this sample.

That's 9k on the Schaeffers 9000? I run extended intervals on the wife's TDI and my truck with the 9000 5W40.
Do you think one oil change would be sufficient to get the elevated wear metals out of the system? Seems like it might take 2 or 3 changes?

how do those ABS sensors come out? Are they pull out or screw out? Thanks.

1 Raise Vehicle
2 Remove 8 Wheels Lugs (1 set per side)
3 Remove the 2 24MM ( use short socket they are factory tight) bolts on the Caliper
4 Support caliper with something or place it on a stool, its heavy so don't destroy the brake line.
5 Remove the rotor, it will need to be pounded off, be careful and don't ding up the Rotor take your time getting it off.
6 Remove the ABS sensor Bolt #5 hex
7 Use WD-40 or whatever lub to remove the ABS sensor take your Time work it form both ends and it will pop out.
8 (Make hose) Its 1/4"flex tubing (Clear) and 1 straight grease zerk, I heat gun the end of the tubing then put the Zerk in and Quickly Zip tied. Sometimes the zerk falls out ,then I just repeat the process (cut off about 1/2") because the tubing gets hard. Really take your time getting the sensor out so you don't break it off, just work it .....with WD-40 or whatever lub you have.
9 grease the hub ( look inside 1st to see how dry) it may take 40+ pumps use wheel bearing grease. Watch the inner seal when full grease will ooze out, after driving some grease may burb out the seal this is normal, keep turning the Hub when greasing.
10 Install . Never-seize the ABS bolt ,then reverse order TQ wheel lugs to Factory specs, then drive and recheck lugs TQ

Yes, I think you're right it will takes 1-3 changes for break in levels to drop, did you see the fuel .05 on 9K that supports the new design rings and the lower levels of fuel need for active Regens, the emission level are some what high, but I've seen them 3 times that higher on 2007.5-12 6.7 Ram Cummins, the TBN was good also plenty of life left in that lube.

Yes 9K on 9000 5-40W Scharffers.

Both fuel dilution and insoluables are in line with my 98 at similar mileage, which speaks volumes of the cleanliness of the engines fuel and emissions systems. Twice the factory torque output, and twice the service interval backed up by good UOA's, sounds like a winner.

I hope so,,, I waited 10 years to Buy Diesel pickups, I bought gas for business use form 2003-2013 , I did buy 1 2005 Ram 5.9 & 1 2007.5 6.7,the 07.5 was out off service weekly, it was a real flop and was return to Dodge after the 1 year lease was up. I pulled 1oil sample form the 07.5 it was 3.5% FD with only 3K on the OD.

I've seen it all over the years both commercial and private, My background is pretty in-depth, so if I see something that may turn the tide of what's common and misunderstood, I will share it. Ram Cummins is finally on top IMO, Ram Cummins are powerful ,well designed, reliable, and efficient, The Aisin is proving to be strong and worth the cost... If anyone on the fence about 2013+ Ram Cummins, I don't think you will be disappoint purchasing New again.....

I'd bet REVMAX would more than likely slightly disagree with that statement. :-laf

Now Greg, don't get baited into saying something bad! Just remember your truck works for a living and Horseman-AR's truck is just a glorified soccer Mom's vehicle with a bed. :-laf:-laf You would get half the fuel mileage if you worked a Hemi like you work your Cummins. Probably go out of business at that rate. Ken Irwin:D:D

Well, about all I can say is the oil and filter are much easier to change on the 6.4 Hemi!! The 6.4 is probably too sporty and fast for you, however - I'm not sure you could handle it, my friend!! #@$%!

I'm thinking about trying out a 6.4L HEMI----you have any input for my possible future purchase??? :-laf

I know, men...you guys tried to tell me. I was wrong and you were right...there, are you happy!! :).

I'll be back in a CTD soon, I promise!!
