Lots of them out there on the lot with $50K or even $60K stickers right now. Our local Ford dealer has a half dozen King Ranch F450's that sticker at $64500. I have no Idea what people are actually paying for those units, but it has to still be very high.



I wonder how far upside down the original owner of the truck was to warrant a $49,900 selloff?

Well some people just don't think when it comes to buying a new car or truck. My son just got an used 08 that a guy couldn't make the payments on. The guy paid $51 and change off the lot it had a sticker of $56 and change with all the dealer mark-ups and options. (kid got all the paper work) The boy got it for $32500. Kid said he has not found an option it does not have yet. Oh it was missing the heated tail gate. So yes you can pay over $50000 for a new truck if you trust the dealers and got that new rig fever.
 
My 09 SXT 3500 SRW was $47K because it had 560 miles on it . . some were about $52K on the higher trim levels... I paid half of my truck off right off the bat so I only owe 19K now

I got my '07 5. 9L just as the '08s were making their way to dealer lots. Got
$12,000 off list price. Had 6 mi. on the odometer. Dealer drove over 200 mi. and
trailered it back for me. (I found it online at a dealer in Iowa, my dealer negotiated
the transaction) and that was before the depression started.
 
50k for a new diesel truck, that is shocking, people are really getting hosed on these 50k trucks, my '06 quad 4x4 SLT was 32k brand new, I just can't see paying another 20 g's on top of that.

is it just me or is chevy/GMC charging substantially more compared to similar equipped dodge?? it seems like its at least 5-7k more for a duramax/allison, wonder how they justify that, it doesn't seem to hold up that way on the used market, I wonder if the GM owners ever see they are loosing that much more depreciation over a dodge owner.
 
I saw a 2500 Mega Cab on the Dealers lot for 49k and a F250 for 59k, these are new.

No way I would pay that price for a vehicle.
 
09 4wd QuadCab SLT's here are advertised at about 43K with a 49K sticker price. I think my 04 had a 42K sticker but I paid about 33K new. I would think you'd be able to get a nice new Dodge under 40K if you drive a hard bargain. From what I've seen, Ford and GM dealers aren't willing to come down that far off sticker prices though. Oh well, good deals for us!
 
There are always people willing to pay MSRP because they have to have the latest and greatest. Toyhauling trailers are like this. There are always some who purchase with very little down and pay full boat. They are now owing twice what they are worth. I like new and my 2005 I purchased new with 100 miles direct from the dealer but it was discounted pretty good. I will be looking at the 2010 Crewcab longbed but i will not pay 50K. I will wait for the deals or the used market.
 
My 2005 Excursion was originally sold for $52K, found the 1st owner's paperwork in the glovebox. I paid $25K 19,000 miles and 2 years later. Fully loaded, DVD, leather, etc... 6. 0 Diesel. It has been a trouble free great truck.
 
I wonder that myself. I ordered my 08 laramie with extra options like sun roof and limited slip and so on. I paid 35 and change for it, sticker was just shy of 50, I don't know why people pay that???
 
A lot of people never look at the actual price, only "what are the payments". I heard of a guy a few years back who kept trading vehicles and basically owed MSRP on his new truck. The dealer was covering his trade-in by charging full price on the new truck.
I paid cash for mine, found a new 2008 in Aug of 2009 that was exactly what I wanted (but apparently no one else wanted a manual 2wd). It had been on the dealers lot almost 2 years and the new style '10s were coming out, so I think I got a good deal on it. In fact, I think the asking price was pretty good deal, and managed to negotiate down from there. A lot depends on whether you can take the emotions out of car buying, do your research, have lots of patience, and be able to walk away from a dealership.

I think the dealer also has a lot to do with the price. I went to one local Dodge dealer who showed me a VERY base model for $42k. That was the cheaper diesel on the lot and they had NO negotiating room (based on their statements). I found my current truck a week later, nicely optioned, for well under $40k. And to think that the first dealer I went to sells a LOT of trucks in my area. I see their badge on trucks all the time.
 
I am often told that I was a fool for buying my truck from the dealer I did, until they hear what the deal was. I don't know what the secret is but a dealer will sell one truck at list to one guy and then sell one for 10k cheaper to the next guy. The dealer I bought my Dodge from has a reputation for not dealing at all, I found the exact opposite to be true in my case. I didn't have to negotiate at all, told them what I wanted to order and they gave me a price. I called some of the big name dealers and had them fax me quotes for the same truck prior to talking to my local dealer, I ended up paying about 300 more for the convenience of getting it here in town.

that is pretty typical ALL dealers will deal however they are sifting through the people that they feel they can make money on. what you have to do is take the emotion out of the deal, I like making all my deals via phone or email, rather than being interrogated in the showroom. the only dealer I found that would not deal is honda, and I think that is just how they do business, they would take like $800 off sticker but on a 28k vehicle that is not anywhere near enough for me.



this formula works for just about any make of vehicle including a toyota, take 10. 5% off sticker price, then less out any incentives, and you have a rough sale price, ie a price that you should never ever pay more than. a dealer like dave smith, will even sell for $1500 BELOW invoice less incentives, my suggestion is to just tell the dealer dave smith will sell the truck for this much money to me, can you match it, I have found that the dealer will, to them a sale is a sale, even if they make a little less on it, its on to the next one.
 
I never talk to dealers about sticker price (MSRP). I could care less what sticker price is. I begin with true invoice price, which I get from the internet. Once the dealer and I have agreed what the invoice price is, we'll negotiate profit, which is some figure below or above invoice. This does not include incentives, which are always due to the buyer.



I also never buy any vehicle off the lot. I order them with the color and equipped the way I want it, not the way the dealer wants it.



I purchased my 05 at flat invoice from a local dealer. I could have got it for a few hundred less from Dave Smith, but I'd have to fly about 1000 miles and drive it home.

Dealer invoice price is not the dealers actual cost of the truck, but it is unfortunately as good as we're going to get unless you own the dealership. I agree looking at sticker price is a waste of time, but I do keep the stickers when I get a truck and put it in the window when I sell it so anyone interested can see exactly what options the truck has.
