Did You Know Ram had a Diesel Engine 11 Years Prior to Cummins (89)?

For a fork lift engine as it was designed it did well, the one that decided to put it into a road vehicle should be blamed.

I never found a good Japanese Diesel engine, they are all dogs including the newer turbo ones.
There are no passenger vehicles with diesel in Japan, prohibited by law, so, they have no experience with that.

Hino Diesels were good! Bayliner installed a lot of them in boats, both 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder up to 310 HP. Bayliner mechanics were mad when they switched to Cummins. Our 1996 Bayliner 3388 was the year for Cummins in that model. The 4BT150's were a little under powered, however they were very reliable over 19 years and 2800 hours.

I always wondered about a 4B in a boat. I’m guessing that was a pleasure boat?

Yes.

I always wanted a boat, but three reasons I never got one:

1. Mama said NO! I rented a pontoon boat and a ski boat, took the out on lake Amistad (big lake in TX) and both times, perfectly clear when we went out, then bad storm rolled in, and was hell getting back. Ruined my chances.

2. I can't drive or steer a boat worth 2 cents.

3. Mama said NO!

Mama seldom tells me no on anything, and the reason I don't press it is she's RIGHT.

But, I really like friends and family who have boats. I'm the BEST boat guest ever... when invited, I pay for the fuel, the food AND the beer. I ALWAYS get invited back. Another friend who had a boat skinnied down his invite list when his other friends NEVER offered to contribute to anything. My thinking, owning a boat is expensive. maintenance, insurance, cost outlay, etc....

Anyhoo, NICE boat!

Cheers, Ron

Later models of this boat had 4BT250's, with inline injector pumps and water to air inner coolers. They tended to burn down number four piston, do to an engine cooling heater exchanger that was not up to the trask.

Over a million diesel passenger vehicles on the road in Japan, no law against it as far I know, I googled it because that statement didn't sound right, I have no idea where that so called law came from but I have heard it before. Sorry for my curiosity, I just posting a correction nothing more, so don't take it personal.

Some of the Japanese diesels I’ve known.
1986 Camry Diesel
1983 Datsun king cab
Early 80’s Ram 50 (Mitsubishi)
Isuzu Trooper
Last weekend I saw a ‘90’s RHD Toyota HiLux crew that was just brought over.
Except for the Hi Lux, I assume these were US market vehicles, though I doubt the Camry. It belonged to a Catholic Nun from Africa and I think she brought that. How I knew this car is a stroll around the barn. I’ll refrain because some folks here don’t like that so much.
