Did anybody watch the show this week end? If you didn't here is a link on it Horsepowertv Look on january 26&27. Well they put bullydog box, propane, exhaust, aircleaner, and injecters. Dynoed around 420hp or so. They didn't say how much torq. They didn't say they put a new clutch in it. But someone should tell the owner he will need one:D I taped the show to show my dad & brother. Both have dodges to. Well I just giving my 2cents. :p

I was happy to see that they did install something resembling a dual gauge.

I'm curious what stage injector they installed?

It was a pretty good show. The dyno results from changing to a 4" exhaust and afe air filter was interesting. Both of them together made 4 more peak hp over stock.

They did skip a couple details like piercing the pump wire, changing the clutch, and probably some turbo mods like a boost elbow or housing change. Didn't hear what size injectors they put in either.

Not to offend anyone by saying so, but my . 02 worth says it's nothing more than a glorified commercial, to put those products before the public eye. "Crank and Chrome" and "Trucks!" on TNN are just the same. Pure speculation on my part, as I don't know for sure, and don't care to waste my time investigating, but I guess whoever coughs up big bucks, gets his products on those shows.

Another thing curiously absent was the mentioning that most of the mods performed will void your warranty from both Dodge and Cummins.

I would like to see them do a "Shoot Out" between ALL of the Manufacturers products instead of a 1/2 hour infomercial.

BTW "Crank and Chrome modified a Powerstroke on their infomercial this weekend with BD (what else) products.

It was fun to see a dodge on the dyno, but the show kind of annoyed me too. .

"Torque!"

"Torque!"

"Torque!"

"Torque Dog!"

"Torque is for towing!"

"That may not be a lot of horsepower stock, but Torque is where it's at!"

And they didn't mention the Torque numbers at all, and they weren't even on the graphs they showed on TV.

All that and they installed the gauges _after_ they installed everything else.

Dummies.

Yeah but what about durability??

Same story whether it's Dodge diesels, or a snowmobile engine, lot's of aftermarket stuff to increase performance. But how about putting 50,000 miles on that setup (Diesel, not snowmobile) and reporting the results.

Gotta agree with Briar on this myself,,All that show was nothing more than a glorified Dog and Pony show,,Had to love the excited looks on their faces when they got a BIG 4 HP in the exhaust and slick air filter system,,MMMM,Lets see here now, cost of the 4in exhaust and the AFE got to tilt somewhere around $400 or more for a meager 4hp,,Its quite obvious that they did not do their research homework now did they,,Money the wasted there could have tipped their "dyno" numbers better by adding other parts that would pick up the power better,,Lets see now,I think someone else has already told the diesel world that there is no noticable hp gain in exhaust, now who would that have been???... .....

I waaaaant candy....We waaaaant torrrrque.....

What happen to the smoke when they put it on the dyno?

No matter the thought on these shows, at least they get in there, and do some hoping up on AMERICAN cars. Now I have seen the ricer episodes and just had to laugh. Guess they think about the same of diesels as they do ricers.

420 was all they got from a box, injectors, 4", air-filter and propane?:--) Guess they need to look at a clutch, or try some Amsoil. :p ;)

Andrew

on another board we refer to them as *****spower TV ... :p

txkid , depends on what box they added , and if i'm correct the bully dog was the torque dog which is just another VA/EZ type box ... if this is the case 420 isn't to shabby , they really needed to put up a torque number , that would have really had those nitwits knees wobbly :D:D:D

tomscreek , i have over 50k miles with increased power , 30k at the level of the *****spower truck ...

At least it wasn't DR. P. His stuff would have been OFF the charts and warranty will still be fine. I can see why they didnt smoke it, need to keep it neat for emissions viewers. Also doesn't propane help burn the fuel more efficent... I am not sure on the propane thing just what I at least thought it does.

Briar,

Your dead on. Here's how it works. You as a manufacturer pay for a time slot. You write a script telling the crew what is to be said and how your product is to be presented. You set the show up over several weeks and several "practice" shows, meaning they insatall, uninstall, etc to make sure they don't look stupid on the show in front of the camera. Then, your dollars bought you a 1 hour info-mertial and at least one re-run to air at a later date that you specify.

It is nothing more than a paid commercial. It is VERY expensive, like 30k for a show like C&C, but it must be worth it. Now, it only works for manufacturers of products since you cannot capture the business personally. All you are doing is getting your name out there and hope they find one of your dealers.

For what it's worth , the truck in question was in a friend of mines hands about a month ago. His words were that it was pretty impressive without the propane. I however did not get to drive it , but he delivered it to Nashville to the set where the show was taped. I did however, go take a look at it while it was in their shop. It's got a whoppin' 600 mi or so on it and the guages/controller didn't look like a finished install. Look to see more of it on TNN , though cause the work that my friend did was to give it a full on air ride set up. I personally like the way it looked huggin' the asphalt . As far as the advertisement go's I "believe" that the system was free , as well as the install, hence the free advertisement. The humorous part to me however is that they put all the suspension on the truck , and then put it all back to stock , so it could be installed again on the T. V. (gotta look like you're the man);)

What I thought was absolutely hilarious was the fact the never even mentioned a clutch, not even an afterthought. If that thing was a 6spd, that clutch is not long for this world... .

They hook a hose to the exhaust pipe and vent it outside. If you look at the back wall you can see the various hoses for this purpose hanging up when not in use.

What bothered me was seeing them stand on it, get that turbo spinning real good, let it come back to idle and just shut it off.

C&C did the same with their Ford project.

I'm Extremely Biased.........

Joe Elmore's career started here (in Memphis) and he's a distant relative thru marriage. Chuck Hansen flew combat missions in Vietnam and knows more about child rearing than Dr. Spock and Dr Laura combined. He's also forgotten more about Chevelles and Street Rodding than anyone posting here will most likely ever know. Look him up at a Super Chevy show and feel free to engage him in any form generalized conversation you chose. There's a LOT more going on between Mr. Hanson's ears than what the 6th. grade mentallity scripting will let show thru. Trust me.

The diesel uprate show wasn't done to preach to the faithfull in TDR choir. You can bet the small block/big block Chevy crowd could have cared less to see their show "wasted" on a diesel.

A simple 30 minute program isn't going to alter anyone here's opinion on how to BOMB their Cummins. Heck, I don't agree with a lot of whats printed in our own TDR magazine. These are two good men doing their job. That program was just 1/2 hour less that The Nitwit Network had to run roller derby or tired star trek reruns. I miss Brock Yates and the late Steve Evans doing American Sports Cavalcade more than CBS will ever know. Sorry to drift off topic.

Well said Top Fuel. Ive been watching Horsepower since it first came on Hot Rod TV. There are very few shows on for us gearheads and personally I cant stomach the garbage sitcoms on TV today. Horsepower TV may be a bit commercialized but its still one of the best shows along with C@C that covers our interests.

Both of those guys obviously know there way around a shop and how to wrench on a car/truck. I can remember the cheesy show on TNN a couple years ago which covered modification of vehicles.

THe bimbo which was the co- host looked like she didnt know how to adjust a cresent wrench. Fortunately that show wasnt long for our world. Sorry Im way off topic.

Chuck "ott'a" go down to Columbia and work for the company - they're paying real good right now for old UH-1 guys. He probably flew the H or maybe the earlier D model. But he'd, like most of us, he'd have to loose some weight - Columbia would do that to him.
