Competition Finally won a pull....Reedsville, WV

Competition The next best thing for nitrous users!

I have just about decided to buy the diesel Arctic Cat ATV. I have some sales literature coming about it and was quoted a price of $9,600. Kind of steep, but it has had lots of research and development and it uses a time-proven Lombordini engine (inline 2 cylinder, 686cc, liquid cooled). The diesel model appears to come with a lot of the top of the line goodies like 4-wheel independent suspension, digital speedometer, front and rear cargo racks,1050# towing capacity, 40 amp alternator and the "TRV" capability which allows a cargo box or two rider seat. It was developed for military and was recently made available to the public. It can run on diesel #1 and 2, arctic diesel, biodiesel and JP #5 and 8, with a 30% greater fuel range than gasoline engines. (duh, we know that!)

I will post more information as I find it out.

I also have a 2003 Honda Foreman (450) 4x4 ES (electric shift) for sale. It has right at 100 hours and is in excellent condition. $5,000 obo.

Hey Nut, not trying to bust your bubble but you're awful high on the Honda. Hope you can get what you want but that unit should sell in the mid $3K's. Honda's flooded the ATV market with new ones with huge rebates the past few years. It's really devastated the used market.

How about some pics of the new one!!??

I'm not sure if you're located near a Bass Pro Shop or not but the ad I got this week shows they are having their 2007 Arctic Cat clearance. The ad shows the 700 Diesel marked down $1400 to $8199.

WOW! Thanks for the information! The local dealers I have talked to say they are not discounting them. $9600 is the price I got from three different places. There is a Bass Pro Shop near Atlanta. I will check them out!

Thanks for the information!

That is the link to the Arctic Cat website and their information on the Diesel.

I like this one too. These guys are working on bringing their machines to USA.

WOW! Called Bass Pro in Atlanta and was quoted a price of $7745! Quite a difference! Thanks for the information! I did not even know they sold Arctic Cat!

I wonder what I can get on a trade for my two polaris?

You will be best to sell them. This is hunting and gift-giving season coming up and ATV's are in high demand in the Fall. I am going to sell my Honda Foreman before I buy another. I am keeping my Polaris because it is already properly fueled! ;)

Not needed..

To be honest, you do not need anything more than 500CC in a ATV. Anything more is just tire spin. You can pull, climb, haul, anything with a 250CC machine that you can with a 950. That 950CC AC would not fit on many of the trails I ride at 58", would be next to imposible to winch off a vertical embankment, or out of the mud without assistance at 700+#s, and would not do well on fuel, which effects range. I see some of the people out in the boonies with these huge machines, mag wheels (getting chewed up in the rocks), high dollar winches (which do the same job my cheap one does), and acessorys getting laid to waste by twenty miles of rock.

I have two little low dollar Polaris, one with a winch, and both stock. My wife drove hers off the edge of a 300' vertical embankment yesterday, she bailed as it sailed, ended up on her butt in the middle of the trail. Scared the heck out of me as she is no spring chicken, she was fine, machine ended up 50' down the embankment against a tree. Now mind you, we are high in the Sangres on the Rainbow trail, with no one else around for many miles. I go back up the trail, turn around and start winching it up inch by inch. After around an hour, we are back on the trail, machine has one more scratch on a REAR fender(very supprizing!), and Maw has a bump on her elbow. I had added a thumb assist on the throttle, she started to push the handlebar for the turn and hit the throttle, then panic... ... .

I do get some good pics though...

Trust me, when I say "amazes me" I'm referring to the how's and why's. How they stuff so much engine into essentially the same frame (dimensionally) as the 500's, and why does anyone need a quad that big? I bought my first quad back in 1984; a Honda TRX125. Back in the days when Honda only made 2 quads... Back when a 300cc quad was considered huge. I don't think it will be long before we are seeing 1200cc motors stuffed in these things, then 1500cc, and so on.

Incidentally, I viewed one of these Thundercat 950's last weekend at a local dealer. Factory rep said torque is rated at 188 ft lb. I find that very, very hard to believe, but he swore by it and the literature also said it.

My Polaris is a workhorse. Like CF said, it is just wheelspin if you add more power than you have traction. The overpowered gasser machines just shoot roostertails in the mud and sit on the frame. My diesel will just lug on through it. It is amazing! I am looking forward to the Arctic Cat diesel. When I sell the others and get it, I will let yall know. CF, the neat thing about the diesel Arctic Cat is you and your wife could comfortably ride together. It has a removable back seat that converts to a pickup bed, seat or rack.

I am excited this is finally available. Unfortunately, their advertising is about like Volkswagon does for their diesels... NONE! It is all about that damn new "1000" machine! They need to let people KNOW they have this diesel available. Polaris had a great idea, yet failed to market it. I have had dozens of people say they never knew there was a diesel available and they are amazed at my Polaris.

Not...

My wife would never give up her ride, I would have to get her one to. . :D I would have to try one out at altitude, I am always riding over nine thousand feet, don't know if it would have the umph up there... Like to turbo that pig though! Lots of bucks to shell out... :D But at first site it looks awesome. .

Oh, man, you guys are going to make me lust after an ATV again.

I love the idea of the diesel, but I have 2 issues with it: liquid cooled, and lower ground clearance than the gas models. I'm not sure whether the ground clearance really matters much, but I would much prefer an air cooled engine.

Why would air cooled be better than liquid cooled? My Raptor 700R gets pretty hot when I ride, it has an electric fan to help cool the aluminum radiator. I dont see how just air would be enough to cool the single cylinder engine. I think most if not all quads and dirt bikes are liquid cooled.

I figure it's a matter of philosophy. Air cooled is simpler, that's all. That's why I like it.

My neighbor's Polaris is air cooled, and the engine's been great for him (he's not kind to it). The Arctic Cat engines through 400cc are air cooled. Kawasaki's up through 360cc are air cooled. Polaris up through 300cc are air cooled. Some of the Honda engines through 475cc are air cooled.

The bigger engines have to go to liquid cooled, obviously. But since I agree with CF that anything above 500cc is just "quicker death" for me, I'd rather stay around 400cc.
