Cummins V6 & V8 report

Hey Jeff,

Are you getting a new truck or getting out of trucks? I hope you are doing good. That boat could be kinda cool. I bet it would rip your arms off coming out of the water on a ski.

What stuff are you getting rid of.

I have a 6BTA marine Cummins in my boat... rated at 270 hp. Not a ski boat though... it's a 34 ft trawler.

The engine is 12 valve and P pumped with an antifreeze cooled aftercooler for low maintenance. Nice engine, durable, strong, easy to work on, parts are relatively cheap... same reason we like em in our trucks.

Hey Mike

Selling the truck, not sure what I am getting. Right now I am thinking about getting a work type vehicle, probably a Durango or Grand Cherokee and then getting a 12 valve and taking it to the wall. Who knows though!!

Truck is getting completely neutered as we speak. Plan to get rid of it after that.

I would be all over a comp ski boat with a diesel in it. I ski behind several different V8 powered ones now, one has 325 hp and they will literally rip your arms out of the socket. WOuld love to get a torque monster in a boat like this!!Oo.

That would be a nice project. The issue you will be facing is that you will likely need to lower the prop shaft (and increase the dia to handle the power) so you can go with a larger diameter prop to absorb the power.

You should discuss with a good prop shop before you start to see what they recommend as a starting point, that way you'll have the clearance necessary to work within.

Don't forget to install a good 1st stage filter that can handle at least 60 gal per hour and consider a fuel cooler for the return line. My marine engine circulates 45 gal/hour at rpms above 1800... don't know what the truck engines move foir fuel volume.
