I'm getting ready to buy new injectors and want the biggest injectors I can get. What seems to be the best injector on the market. I'm thinking of the super mentals or the bully dog 5. Which is better and what other brands are there? Right now I'm like this:D , after monster injectors and a PE Comp:--) Oo. Oo.

The Bully Dog 5's will outpower the Supermentals by a bit. Which is "better" is up to you. I tried the Supermentals and they didn't smoke much more than my old DD2's. The Bully Dog 5's power is incredible, but they puke lots of smoke no matter how you drive. Guys that live in the sticks or small towns can get away with it, but I can't see someone in Renton(or around here) getting away with it for long.

While the Bully Dog 5 has more power, I honestly think the DD is a better developed product. Rather than keep hogging out the holes, DD actually has different tips on the Mentals because at that point the spray angle changes. Another difference... anybody can buy the Bully Dogs, but DD is very choosy on who can buy the Mentals.

BTW, your auto trans is built, right? You should come by my work weds or thurs night about 8pm (Renton Honda). We can talk truck stuff for a few.

i agree with mike.

the 5's make more power than the mentals but boy do they smoke. i mean just cruising down the road at 80mph it puffs smoke. this last weakend i rode in 2 different truck with mentals and buy the time the boost hit 35psi the smoke was gone. mine never really clears up, without n20. i love my 5's but they are not for everyone. i don't have to worry about emission laws and you do. the edge comp helps a lot wit the smoke. but my truck on 1-1 smokes worse than theres on 5-5.

if it were me i would try and stick with a stage 4 injector. either the bullydog 4 or the supermental. unless you don't mind talikng to the cops every once in awhile.

heck the last time mike rode in my truck the cops wanted to chat with us.

Right now I would say DD, they put out what they claim. I currently have DD III's. I am trying a set of BD IV's just for the heck of it..... and we will see if they put out what they claim. Also wanted a slightly bigger injector so when I add nitrous I have more "extra" fuel to burn.

You can't go wrong with DD. Are they better then the BD's? Don't know for sure... . yet.

DD VS BD

In my opinion DD's injectors are better because of the quality control and acturate honing process that goes into each set... Claims have been made that BD's produce more horse power, however, produce much more smoke which is unburned fuel... Anyone can produce a shower head type injector, however, DD's are designed for specfic power levels and specfic turbos to maximize proper burn and performance. Either brand of injectors will not give you the performance you want unless, your fueling box, turbo, exhaust, transmission etc. are not properly matched.

its interesting to see how opinions change when the snow storm of parts start flying... . isnt it?

Bully Dogs do what they claim and have proven it even on Jim's truck.

the fives are pretty harsh and you better know what you are getting into with either.

Just curious if you could expand on this statement a bit?

Other then yourself and Jim every one I see that has posted runs DD's. How has opinions changed?

I just meant, after trying every combination under the moon your opinion of something may change.

it was along the lines of Heber was saying. thats all :D

I'm hoping the BD IV's impress me vs my DD III's... ... I'm trying them basically in preperation for nitrous setup, just hope they perform like I am thinking they will. Besides can always use more power... if they produce it ;) I bought mine used (3000 miles) for very very cheap, thats why I couldn't pass them up. If I don't like'em I'll sell'em... and put my DDIII's back in.

My four's didnt even cool off and they were gone..... out of the truck i just sold :D

there IS a market for used injectors.

FYI Doug and Andy and ADT can clean and check check pop off pressures for you on injectors. obviously not for free but it is well worth it to mak sure they are cleaned up and still a matched set and not a bad one in the bunch.

give them a call.

Still have a couple weeks!

Sounds like you can't go wrong with the DD's, but the trans needs to get bombed next weekend. Gonna drive up to Canada and have DTT go through my trans. :) I thought I would get the injectors ordered ahead of time. But I think I will let this post accumulate a few more opinions. Thanks for the info but more is better:D

I have tried different prototype injectors from Diesel Dynamics. When it comes time to dyno, DD is right up there. They will take the injectors as far as is safe. You would not want to hammer it once on the street, all of a sudden lose what little was left of the seat after overhoning for max power, and then have a white cloud of unburned fuel washing down the cylinder. DD understands the downside and won't overhone their injectors. They warranty them, a good thing for your expensive engine :) They also keep the atomization good for low smoke.

The Super Mentals take a bit of counseling so you understand the care and feeding. DD doesn't want someone putting them on a near-stock engine and having problems like high egt. Contact me if you need more details, or check with DD directly.

Cuminntstrkn is dead on--the BD5's smoke and they may be a pain to drive with in the city--mine are---I will be putting them back in for some dyno testing on the 22nd so we will know how much better on the HP they are vs DDIII's..... the 5's are definitely better using the SOP meter, but not sure if they are 100hp more than the DDIII's, the dyno will tell..... the super mentals are smokers also and can make your truck idle like an overcammed gasser for that matter so do the 5's---good luck just do your research and go-----chris

Csutton7, Have you dynoed your truck with the ddIII. If so, definately post the #'s back here. I can't wait to see them.

yea I did with the HX 40 and DDIII's, but learned afterwards that the guy had it set up wrong, as one of the guys who dyno'd the same day, Cummnspwer, went back a couple of days later and the guy told him and he dyno'd 30-40 hp more than before with the same setup----anyway I hit 397 and the HP went down each time for 3 consecutive runs thereafter---It should've been more, so I believe it when I here that the dyno was off... . also I think the guy accidently turned on the High Idler during the testing as it was on when I got in to back the truck out---so that's why I'm going to dyno again, but this time it will be with the B1 and DDIII's and then with the BD5's... ... . chris

Chipstein, while your at DTT,you should be able to get info on the DD's,since they sell them, maybe leave there with a new set of injectors too,I have DD3's,and love them. While I would love another 25hp from supermentals,Im not sure im willing to sacrafic any more driveability than i have at this point. So id stay with dd3's
