BD 5's

I believe that I was one if not the first here to try them. My original plan was to swap out the BD 3's for the 4's, until I learned of the 5's :--) .

Sure, they smoke at low boost, but IMHO, they are streetable with the correct driving pattern. Not sure what elevation you live at, but here I'm at around 1500' above sea level and the smoke is very controlable in relationship to the boost. There is always some smoke at takeoff and a light haze under mid to heavy throttle with the boost up.

The seat of pants meter says a good gain, coming from the step 3 injectors. I will dyno come spring and post the results.

I have had the BDIII's in the "White Obsession" for over a year now (34,000 miles) without any problems. They gave me right at 105 HP over the stock injectors. DD was the first to produce performance injectors and took advantage of it in their pricing. Finally BD started marketing injectors and DD price became more competitive.

It is my understanding that DD had someone else produce their injectors at first, then the started producing them themselves. It is my understanding that the people who use to produce the DD are now making the BD. I may stand corrected on this, however if my memory doesn't fail me, this is the situation.

I'll have to say DD reputation for injectors is great. On the other hand, I have never heard anyone who has had BD injectors complain about them.

All I can say is I like my BDIII's and have never been sorry I save $100. 00 over the DD's. :D

Just to set the record straight, DD has never sold a set of Dodge injectors that were not done in-house.

Keith,

I stand corrected!

Just wondering, is someone who use to work at DD now producing injectors?

Thank you for setting me straight and killing this rumor.

Big Bob---I have heard the same thing, though it was quite awhile ago--there is/was a company that did injectors and that's who DD got them from, before they bought the equipment to do it themselves, now maybe they were doing them for DD to DD specs which would make Keith's statement true to some respect----- and as far as I know they're still doing injectors for others..... chris

Hey Bob, I can't see how that could be. We've only had one employee since the company started that isn't with us now, and he was just a sales guy like me. :)

When Lawrence first got into doing injectors, he did send out a set to Extrude Hone. He got those back, tested them and saw the potential of what COULD be done. He then bought a machine and went to work. That was the only set that DD used that wasn't done in house, and those were for R&D and thrown out.

Having had both...

I had the BD II's and now have the SM's. I would have to give the edge to DD. Bully dog treated me right with the injectors that I had. They performed well and I was very satisfied with thier performance. The one "downside" was smoke. They weren't really bad, if you drove right. But if you got on it, watch out:eek:. Then if you added the PE, it was lights out. I'm not kidding when I say that I could make an entire four lane road disappear from the smoke.

The DD's are much more refined in behavior. They smoke less than my BD's did. And the power is awesome. But, for raw power, the BD's can possibly make more power because of the increased fuel delivery. But smoke and some drivability issues will be the sacrifice. Lawrence believes the SM's make as much power as the BDIV's. I don't know if that's true, but I have no complaints whatsoever. Hope that helps you make your decision.

Alright folks,

after I get my transmission DTTized (Only a few pints to go Fred, won't be too long) I'm getting injectors. I'm not made out of money so I'll buy one set and stick with them. I need to be able to tow my 5 er (9K) about twice a year. I don't mind towing slow(55/65 MPH), I ain't that good at it anyhow. I want the biggest SOBs I can get and still be able to tow. Most of the time(99%) I run empty. Smoke is not an issue.

Question is this:Anobody towing with SM or BD 4's?

Feedback appreciated,

Glenn

Yes I'll have a 4" exhaust by then... .....

i tow with bd5's. you just have to use your head while towing. they smoke a lot at low boost. so when you start moving the load from a stop it will smoke pretty good.
