Ok Guys!! Want to upgrade but do not know what direction to take. Does anyone have the Dr. Performance kits if so how do you like them, and how do they compare to diesel dynamics. Any info on the two systems would be appreciated.

Hello Junior

I have asked about the Dr before and most people seem to think his prices are way too high.
The info I got from the TDR mag was that the kits do work though, are more fuel efficient and better EGT, but alot of money.
Mostly I gathered that the Dr is not a people person!
Also I think BD? can set up your pump for about the same power for less money, but havent heard on EGT or fuel economy.
Powerwagon has said his shop sets up your 12v pump for good power too, but dont know about the 24v.
Diesel Dynamics seems to make everyone happy that has them, have positive comments on power and customer service both.

Junior,

Try doing a search of this site for posts regarding "Doc". Maybe his stuff works. Hey he's a CHIROPRACTOR after all! C'mon! Oh, excuse me, and he's a, uh, MEDICAL DOCTOR too... . #ad

Make your own decision. Call over to Idaho to his shop, tell them you are interested but want to talk to him personally. Have some questions ready (technical--like talk to a REAL mechanic first) about the ISB, that you already know the answer to... then ask ol' Doc and see what happens. #ad

Then decide who you wanna give your $$$ to.

Out of curiosity, at May Madness, I sat down and had a long discussion with the Dr. Performance people about why their product worked without adding any additional fuel (with resultant smoke) and why it was SO expensive, since all it is is a set of injectors and their "MAGIC" box. I was told that their injectors were engineered and "timed' and flowed and atomized differently than others and that their module was different too and that was why their prices were THREE times higher than Diesel Dynamic's comparable stage III systems, installed.

I have never talked to a vendor that didn't have the best product and felt that other's products were beneath theirs--in so many words. They may not come right out and say it but it's obvious that they want to sell their product, which is only natural. All businesses have to amortise research and development and marketing cost by addiding it to the price of their product, at least initially. I have actually been told that the reason that I was paying more is for their expertise, reputation and longevity in the market--take it or leave it! We all know that most of this stuff we add to our trucks are way overpriced for what we get, but when it's the only game in town, we go for it! #ad

porky;

Am I hallucinating or didn't you used to have Stage III's ?

To answer the original question, as for DD, they have really good prices, and seem to produce happy customers.

I can count the "good" stories about Dr. P on one hand, not using my fingers.
I have no experience with him myself... but after all I've heard, one would question my sanity about throwing all that cash that way #ad

Hey Porky,

Did Doc's crew mention what if anything they are doing to the pumps on the 24vs??? I thought that was the gist of their ads I saw, that their "module" package wasn't as good as whatever it is they do with the pump... ... ????

Dave, I believe when the Dr's adds mention the word "pump," it is referring to the 12 valve engines.

Shawn, I did trade my stage III's in on the stage I's mainly because My wife drives my truck too and didn't appreciate smoke---of any quantity and I decided that if I had that much horepower readily available that I'd eventually get myself in trouble!!! I miss the power but the stage I's netted me over 61 HP and 111 ft lbs of torque over the stock reading, to the rear wheels, so it's still a good improvement. I'm also up to 19-20 mpg combined hwy and city now so I'm happy!

The reason I inquired about the Dr's claim of high HP and torque improvement was because I was told his product doesn't smoke and that interested me until---- I was quoted a price!! WOW!!! #ad

Hi Junior,
Last Summer I went to the Dave Smith Rally in Kellog Id,where they had brand new '00 demo trucks with Dr Performace kits installed. I spent alot of time in a 6spd with the Dr's stage II... the dyno chart said it did 287hp. In decamber I bought an identical(to the T) 6spd truck to the one I test drove, but I put in DD's Stage II... it did 295hp.

Dr Perf and DD seem to be doing the same thing to me(honed injectors),but the price is way different. The Doc charges somewhere around $2400 dollars for that stage II -AND- only one of HIS approved shops can do the installation. You can get DD's stage II's for $600 plus another $300 for the module. If you can't install them yourself, then installation won't be much more. I'm happy!

Fifteen hundred bucks will buy you quite a few other accessories for you rig.

I wish I had a chance to apply my "BS Spotter" to Dr P's explanations of how his stuff works. I'm no engineer, but I think I could reasonably well figure out what's bovine scatology and what's actually significant.

Has anyone got thier explanations on video or paper?

Powerwagon, 1st let me mention that you need to check out the t-shirts given out at MM. That is if you know anyone who attended.

Re: "P", he seems to be a bit secretive about what he does. Rather general in tack. I doubt you will find any detailed literature or explanation. He doesn't want people to know that he just makes a couple adjustments to the 7100 and sells it for $3K without actually rebuilding it. Etc.

Hey guys thanks for the info. Sorry i didn't get back to you sooner but was busy with work and this was first time i could get back on the computer. I will probably go the cheaper way out. That extra money could be used for more accesories.
