Recruiting for TDR at gas station

Rip Van Winkle

I figured someone might be interested in this. I was at the VW dealer this morning for my 80K maintenance and asked about the new Jetta and Passats. The Maintenace guy said that after the first of the year VW will be releasing a Diesel/electric Hy-breed ... might be interesting to some of you folks ... thought you'd like to know.

BOUT TIME! When all those eco freaks start talking about "hybrid this, hybrid that", I just say "you can get a Diesel powered Volkswagon, which is a bigger car, is time proven, more powerful and gets better fuel economy with less expense (purchase and service wise). "

The diesel/electric (although as complicated as gas/electric) should REALLY shine on fuel economy! Maybe 80 mpg? That would kick arse and sure help give diesel the recognition it deserves!

Love that brand new diesel/electric technology ... I vaugely remember it being used in the U-Boats sent out by the Kieser in WWI.

Did he mention if the driveline would be set up in series or parallel?

No, he didn't know anything more than "diesel/electric". I guess also that the regular Jetta diesels won't be out till mid year also, just the 2. 5 gas sadans are out now.
