new to the site and would like some advise on finding good credible information on diesel engines, how they work and how to make them better. i like to read about tuners but don't like the idea of dumping fuel and letting the engine figure the rest out.

this is the main reason i joined this site. i am very impressed with the information available. any publication would be great (books, sites)

Welcome to TDR. You came to the right place. I can't offer you any better advice than Jim W did except, stick with a Cummins Inline 6.

Obviously this site deals with Cummins. The Buyers Guide(left hand column on home page) is a wealth of basic info on our engines. Joe Donnelly's tech articles over the years here on TDR are always excellent. Do a search on "Search Forums" for specific questions. Past issues of TDR are provided on here in digital format.

I've had my truck for 13 years, now, and am still a "first time" owner. Externals fail and need replacement, but the engine just goes and goes and goes.

Lost the harmonic balancer! ..... still ran
Shot the Killer Dowel Pin thru the timing gear cover! ... ... still ran
Lift pump failed! ... ... crawled across town on IP suction alone
Destroyed auto trans 3 times! ..... engine always ready to move truck when able

Were she a horse, she'd be book-worthy.
