Speedvision had the 2002 car preview last night. The new Excursion SUV (tank/armored personnel carrier) was featured with the new Navistar. A whopping 16 mpg average over 28,000 miles. Be still my beating heart.

I have customer has excursion/diesel says she gets 16 mpg(was driven by owner of dealer) but her husbands 3500 flat bed gets 8 mpg. It mite be a heavier model but she says it is a 1 ton.
16 mpg for that monster isn't to bad just think of all the extra sheet metal and plastic(interior)... .

I have an Excursion with the DT444E and love the thing... Millage has been a low of 15. 6 with a high of 22 (checked at the pump) The high millage was on flat and level and being driven with millage in mind. It averages just under 18 mpg with easy city/hwy driving.

Havn't hooked the boat up yet this year...

People don't believe me when I tell them it was the most fuel efficient SUV that would pull my boat...

Just a hair under 8K# they all have 3. 73 gears and 265/75-16 tires.

The weight plays a major factor in stop and go millage. Accelerating the beast takes its toll. They also have pretty slow shifting to apeal to the station wagon crowd. Easy to fix the shifting, the weight however ...

A bit taller gear should help marginally, guys running 285/75-16's report the same or a slight dip in millage. 255/85-16's are supposed to help by a mile or two a gallon.

It is hard to keep your foot out of the thing in stop and go... something about turbo whine...

I like this thing better every time I drive it, and thats the best endorsement I can give it. Wish it had a 12v though #ad

The reality is I didn't buy an 8000 lb $42K vehicle for gas millage. I am a diesel fan and wanted an SUV, the Excursion is the only player in North America meeting those requirements. I would have loved am ML280D or an X5 with the 4. 0l twin turbo option.

We will get the here eventually.
