i have seen a bunch of cummins putting out all this black smoke when you turn the power up. if this smoke like really unclean and bad for the environment? how does diesel exhaust compare to gasser exhuast?

Diesels are far more cumbustion efficient than gassers. The ratio is something like 95%, to the gassers' 56%, if I remember correctly. Even with enhanced fueling, and black smoke, I'd put good money on it that the emissions are still cleaner.

The EPA attacks and public conception is totally misguided. Sort of like the whole gun control issue.

If you can see the exhaust then obviously you have too much fuel, which causes too much pollution. This in turn WILL cause many mice to die in laboratory experiments.

Whereas if you can't see the exhaust gasses then it must be pollutant free and harmless to all society. EX: mustard gas, sarin gas, clorine gas, carbon monoxide, etc.

Don't know why but this makes me think of some stuff I read a while back about the gas from cow manure and the effect on the ozone. Forget exactly how much money was spent on the study.

Is not the visible exhaust from a diesel particulate matter? Does it not settle into the ground... dust... dirt... grass, rather than go up into the atmosphere where it reacts with the sunlight and produces environmentally dangerous compounds? As to cow-gas... . what about closing Mexican restaurants?

NO - Don't close the Mexican resturants... I wouldn't be able to do the "Pull my finger" trick with my kids as often! :(

PS - on a serious note - yes, the particulates go to the ground - not up in the air.
