After looking at this thread, I went back and reread the TDR issue dealing with fuel additives and then I read the attached information. I also noted that Bill ran his truck for 200K miles without additives and remember a thread that had many members that never used DFA. I think I will save the case of Rotella DFA that I recently bought for the cold (below freezing)months of this winter and quit using it every tank. Looks like it will save me some money. Thanks for the wake-up call.

Lots of Good Info Here

When I posted the links, I didn't intend to get people wound up. It was a slow night at work, so I did a little digging.



There is always a little confusion about what is meant by Premium Diesel. The definitions for it aren't commonly made available to the general public. I thought I had seen them on the Chevron website, so I rounded them up.



One of the things I found interesting was the data from the Bosch link. I guess all of our experiences with the longevity of our fuel systems is a testament to how much the fuel quality varies around the country. Some of us will have good luck without using any additives. Personally, I use Stanadyne Performance Formula, for its lubricity enhancement. My VP-44 is the driving force there.



Some additives are water emulisfyers, and some are demulsifyers. I don't know all of the details as to which ones are which.



Slo-Ryde brought up a good point about any water in the fuel system and what happens to it. That is one of the things we need to think about when we choose an additive. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE WATER (If Any) THAT IS IN THE FUEL???

It probably passes right though the fuel system and comes out the exhaust as steam. Unless it's excessive I wouldn't think it would cause a problem till it freezes.
