Case of 6 1/2 gallons (Performance Formula) shipped to my doorstep (Oregon) was $101. 34.

I thought that might be the case--pun pun pun.



So 6. 5 gallons the way I buy it is $260!, but then 6. 5 gallons treats 5408 gallons of fuel --that's enough for 97,000 miles at 18mpg.



I don't need that much. I use about 2 gallons per year--which costs $80- yikes maybe I should shop around.

The local Bosch dealer says most additives are too abrasive for our 12v injection pumps and will wear them out sonner than normal.

But a trucker friend who I know keeps good records says his rig got ONE mpg better using the Lucas additive and says on his Peterbuilt it's worth it.

I run the PowerService additive in about every other tank. I notice better throttle responce and better milage by almost 50 miles per tank! The $3 a tank is worth it! Maybe we just have poor fuel around here.

The oil additive is also really good stuff. It's really stringy and slick as snot. I use their gear lube and trans lube in the drivetrain and have no leaks, and the transmission seems a little more quiet and easier to shift.

Beware of LUCAS. It WILL foam up your oil or lube. Tests to prove this are at www.bobistheoilguy.com



For additives, I have tried a few different ones. I like the Stanadyne blue bottle. The best I have tried so far is made by Redline oil. I notice a HUGE decrease in smoke, and since I am burning that fuel insead of sooting it, I get a little better mileage and a little more pep.



The Redline product is the best I have used out of Standyne, Howe's, Power Service, and Rotella DFA.

That flies in the face of all reason. Number one, lubricity is a key factor in using an additive--we're compensating for more "abrasive" fuels. Number 2, the P7100 is reportedly MUCH more durable and tolerant of junk than the VP--and I'm inclined to believe that.



I think your Bosch guy has his wires crossed on that one. Some of you 7100 guys chime in.

I'm active duty military and we put the p7100's through hell and back... ..... 90% of the pump as well as the 12valve cummins trucks and equipment we have run at 3200rpms 99% of the time around here... ... . Those pumps are indestrctable compared to the vp... which is the reason we dont have any... ... . I mean theres nothin wrong with the other pump but i think the 7100 is a really tough pump from what ive seen.

Does not sound logical to say that a fuel additive that is purchased to increase lubrication of the fuel system would be considered too abrasive for the 12v injection pump. Did you question his statement and ask him to specify which additives he is talking about and what evidence he has to support this assumption?

I second that. When I deployed, I got to use a 4x4 CTD bobtail as my "command vehicle"-- and it topped out at 27mph, right around 3200 rpm. The USAF has a lot of the CTD bobtails for pulling planes and AGE equip and such. The 7100 puts up with GI abuse-- some of the worst abuse there is... .

Howes Diesel treat?

Wow! great feedback on this topic! I'm glad I asked. Its great to know the CTD is used in Military applications (I didn't know that?)

What do you guys think of Howes Lubricator Diesel treat? I got some at a local truck repair shop, and I seemed to have good results from it, my truck seemed to smoke less, get better mpg's, and the "diesel smell" was reduced. They claim it removes water, boost power & performance, stops smoking, increase mpg's, clean & lubricate injectors, prevents gelling, and extends fuel filter life. They also claim no soy additives, no solvents or no sulfur ash. It was about $10 for a half gallon to treat up to 750 gallons. Any thoughs, or anny of you guys use it?Oo.

Well I'll try to make this story short,but it goes something like this;

A place I used to work had a UD Diesel, it ran good,would run 70mph & the redline all day. Until some kid drove it & ran it out of fuel.

Well I had to go to a sale approx. 800 mi got up early,hopped in the truck started driving & it didn't seem right. So I stopped & put some Lucas cleaner in it it ran alittle better,50 mph instead of 45. keep drivin a while & went back to 45 (floored) stop dump another bottle up to 50,then down to 45. So I finally stop get some fuel & was talking to the good ole boy behing the counter & he said why don't you do what they do around here?I ask what that?

dump a qt of atf in the fuel. I asked what works better,type F or Dextron he says don't matter,so I bought & dumped a qt in & about 5-7 miles later we were cruising @70 mph & has ran good since.

So when I read about ATF I just had to throw in a curveball.

Never stated that ATF doesn't provide great lubricity. A 2 cycle oil is probably on the same level.



The problem with ATF in the fuel is the deposits it leaves in the combustion chambers and on the injector nozzles.

Yep, I told the owner I was using Kleenflow conditioner as another guy I know real well runs a shovel and backhoe and he said I should use it.

Anyways, the Bosch guy told me: that's good, I'll probably see you back here in the future!

I asked why and he said most additives are too abrasive for the 7100!

Go figure.
