You guys ain't gonna believe this... I arrived at a jobsite this morning, and when I was getting out of the truck, I noticed a wet section on the Husky Liner floor mat, and a diesel smell... . DIESEL ! INSIDE the cab?!?! no way, Jose ! Ain't no lines running INTO the cab !!! Started the mule up, and watched carefully... saw that it was dripping from the AutoMeter logic/connection box I've got velcro-ed up under the dash, for my fuel pressure gauge. Huh? It's an ELECTRIC gauge, no lines full of fuel INSIDE the cab ! When I got done hopping up and down, running around in circles, scratching my head, I took a closer look, and saw that it was dripping from the special orange sheath on the wires running from the sending unit. Duh. No wonder I've been seeing my fuel pressure gauge pegged out at over 15 psi for a week now. Apparently the sending unit blew out, and it sent fuel through the wire sheath into the cab. No idea why it blew out, I'll be trying to get a replacement or improvement soon !
That's the Briar method of troubleshooting, wait till it blows then you'll know what to fix or replace. #ad

Some reporter once asked Darrell Waltrip why he didn't have a "telltale tach" in his race car (he owned his own car & team at the time)... he replied " What for? I'm gonna run the b***h till she blows, anyway! "

Tom:

Sorry to hear about that diesel fuel
getting into that "immaculate black
Ram Rocket!" You have sure had some
bad luck here lately.

Diesel in the cab?
How much does that cost? I like the idea!

Briar, I haven't had luck with fuel pressure senders lasting long on diesels, too much vibration.
I switched over to a mechanical gauge for that reason, looks like there is potential for diesel in the cab either way. Had an oil pressure sender fail and do the same thing that happened to you, the wire insulation turned into tubing, looked down and had oil dripping on my shoe.

No vibration that I know of, my sending unit was mounted remotely from the fuel pump/engine for that very reason. I suspect the sending unit isn't built to withstand either diesel fuel or the pressures it was seeing...
Nothing to whine about, stuff like this has to be expected when you mess around with a perfectly good truck. #ad

I'd really like to know why it failed , though, and see if AutoMeter can't build us one that will hold up.

Tom,

My sender started leaking two days after I installed it. The new one is working fine, must have had a bad batch of them get by the inspection guy.
