Diesel Fuel Modifier, Is it worth it?

I sold my DDII’s with about 30,000 miles on them. I puled them out and boxed them up to ship them to a person in Texas. I took the rubber cap off the V’s and slid it right on the DDII’s I didn’t really look at them (I was more interested in the V’s) I got an email back that I think is of worthy notice to post.

How many miles are on the injectors and do you run any type of fuel additive to your diesel. The reason I ask, is

because the tips of the injectors are so clean. I originally installed a set of 275 injectors in my truck. I worked like hell to get what I thought to be a thick layer of carbon off them. You couldn't even get the copper washers off. After I pulled my stock injectors, they had about as much carbon as the used 275's had. Yours look almost pristine, and I am trying to figure out how you keep them like that. I can only imagine that the rest of your combustion chamber must be as spick and span at the injector"



Yes, I did use a fuel additive Amsoil Diesel Fuel Modifier.

I use it in every tank. Amsoil did pay off.

Something to thnk about here. My neighbor sells Amway and Amsoil and he pushes them hard. He tried to sell me on the fuel conditioner saying that he "never had to flush or clean his injectors" (gasoline engine). I never cleaned or flushed the injectors in my Dakota (150,000 miles) either and just ran pump gas. Anyway, I was almost persuaded to try some until I read on the bottle that it contained "petroleum distilates" (SP?) which are excellent solvents but lower lubricity and dry out rubber stuff.

I dont remember if the injector cleaner was Amyway or Amsoil product.

PS diesel additive has something in it too that dries out rubber, a friend that works at a diesel injection repair shop told me about that one. He says that he can tell if the owner used PS because all the rubber seals are dried up. My worry is that anything that cleans (dissolves) diesel may dissolve the natural oils in the rubber seals and thereby dry them out.

I just wrote to Amsoil to find out if the Diesel Fuel Modifier will hurt the seals. This is there reply. OverFueled

Before you get too excited about "petroleum distillates" - ya gotta realize that pretty much EVERYTHING lube related, other than synthetics, is a "petroleum distillate"!



All that means is that it is a petroleum derivitive, it came from a petroleum base stock - and while some products are better than others for their intended (or NON intended!) purpose, chances are just about anything you choose to put in yer fuel tank, crankcase or gearbox WILL be a petroleum distillate...
