Ya know,,,,,,,,,,,, It never ceases to amaze me how diesel fuel is currently priced. Supposedly, the refining process for diesel is less intricate that it is for gasoline, therefore, diesel should cost LESS than gas. ( as it once did! ). Now ,as many of you know, diesel costs more than premium. I'd love to know the reasoning that those "#$@$#^^&%$" in the oil companies and the government have to justify this reversal in pricing!

cscpusher,

Unfortunately, I don't know of any truck stops in my area. (Long Island, NY). I'll ask some of the guys at work. Maybe I can hit one of them some where along the route of my daily commute. Thanks for the suggestion.

It is $1. 24 on IH 35 south of Austin at the HEB in Buda Texas. I paid $1. 29 in South Austin a few days ago.

God Bless Texas!

I paid $1. 27 in Warrenton, Virginia last Saturday. It's a 30 mile drive to this station but the price is . 35 cheaper than the 3 stations closer to my house. It also lets me get the "Beast" on the open highway and clear out the cobwebs from driving in the D. C. traffic all week.

The reason gas is cheaper than diesel is simple, the oil companies are making more money off us so they can charge less for gasoline, keeps more people happy. Unfortunately us Cummins owners are in the minority.

One reason diesel can be higher priced than gasoline is TAXES!!!! There is more tax per gallon on diesel than gasoline (I don't know how much).

Another reason is diesel fuel, kerosene, Jet-A and heating oil all come from the same portion of a barrel of crude, i. e. , only so much of these products can be made from a barrel of crude. When demand for these competing products goes up so does the price.

I'm not saying these are the only reasons diesel is higher, just that I don't believe there is a conspiracy against diesel fuel users.

1. 32 here in western Indiana at the truck stop.

$1. 26 if you have a state permit in Michigan. For me it is $0. 06 more per gallon because I do not have a permit. They take $0. 06 off each gallon for the truckers because there is some other way they pay road taxes, so they say. Unleaded is $1. 40 here in Michigan today.

This last summer diesel was WAY less than unleaded, buy now it is about the same.

Our local truck stop is owned and operated by a local monopoly, so the fuel is $0. 20 higher there than at some of the NON-monopoly driven local gas stations...

SJ,

That's cause truck stops are so few and far between up your way on I-75, so they figure they've got the truckers over a barrel and can gouge'em for that extra 20 cents. The smart drivers can find the cheaper fuel stops.

It's time to call a spade a spade. Taxes, refining cost and process are insignificant. As is how much can be made from a barrel of oil. It costs what it costs to make a gallon of diesel. Mots likely within a cent or two across teh manufacturers. Taxes are identical. The only variable is price gouging. I've see the same 20 - 40 cent difference in the same day within five miles of eachotner. Price gouging is the ONLY explination.

I tank up at a local Sunoco truck stop here in NJ (Palisades Park on US 46 near the NJ Turnpike). Current prices are:

- 87 unleaded - $1. 339
- 89 1. 439
- 93 1. 519
- Ultra 94 1. 599
- diesel 1. 339

Diesel always goes up in the winter because of the demand for its cousin, home heating oil, and in the colder areas, the addition of winterizing agents. In the summer, diesel is usually 10 cents less than 87 unleaded; in winter, it can be more than the Ultra 94.

I was delighted to find diesel for the ultra low price of $1. 59 on my last fillup #ad

Diesel is only about 20c higher than unleaded and a couple cents cheaper than Super.

In Kingsland, the price has been slowly going down over the past 3 weeks. Right now diesel is $1. 19.
