Diesel Fuel

Finally picking up my 600 tomorrow! Oo.



As a new CTD owner, any input on brands of diesel? Is the "discount" cheaper diesel OK to run? I have always been a Chevron guy with our gas cars & trucks and notice a difference when running off brand gasoline.

There's lots of advice/opinions on where you should buy diesel. I think the people who have experienced a bad tank of fuel are the best to listen to. I've found most of them say "go to a truck stop"! So, I always fuel at truck stops. I have not had a problem... yet.

Truck stops are good. But I don't drive all the way out to find one just to fill up. I fill up where I know a lot of people fill up. Just avoid stations that don't sell much diesel fuel, and you should be fine.

FWIW on the subject of cheaper diesel, I would avoid the little Mom & Pop stations unless you have a good reference to their fuel turnover an storage. Some may still be using the old metal type in ground storage. Most of the underground tanks these day's are fiberglass construction with a design to catch the water towards one end an are set up with a computer to monitor the amount of water level. At a certain water level the company sends a truck out to pump this contaminated water out to be taken an disposed of. So far I have never had a problem (knock on wood) of getting a bad tank of fuel, but I have been told to wait to fuel when I see a transport at a station fueling the underground tanks causing the water an fuel to be stirred up. Even though there's filtration I still wait awhile myself even at a large truckstop.

I have found that most Pacific Pride card lock stations have great fuel. they are slightly higher but their quality is worth it. Just my 2 cents worth

I agree with Tony T... if you see the trasnport truck there filling the tanks, don't fill your pickup. Weather its water or contaminates, it all seems to get stirred up (rather than settled out and at the bottom of the tank) with their filling the tanks.

I usually go to a high-volume place such as a truck stop, but over the years I have gotten fuel from just about any size dealer out there and have never had a problem with bad fuel. Probably a good idea to follow Tony T's advice about not filling when the storage tanks are being filled.

I get mine at a island that the city and county use. Lots of volume and never has any problems, even the the Idaho winter. .
