has anyone had trouble with excessive diesel smell inside their first gen, truck? i have a 93 and have a bad diesel smell inside the, when the vent is blowing, and really bad just after pulling a grade. does all the air for vents come from in front of the windshield, if so is there any way to stop the air from the engine compartment from entering the cab. there is no rubber stop inside the hood, at the closure and body is this normal... would it help to install a rubber seal in this area... . would it hurt???

FUMES
DIDN'T HAVE A 93 BUT MY 96 HAD THE SAME TROUBLE AFTER LOOKING ALL OVER FOUND THE STEEL ROD WELDED ON THE TOP FRONT END OF THE MUFFLER HAD BROKEN OUT (VIB'S )?? CUT IT OFF AND USED EMERY CLOTH TO GET RID OF AS MUCH RUST AND DIRT THEN APPLYED A MUFFLER/GAS TANK REPAIR KIT WAITED ABOUT A HOUR AN HIT THE TRAIL. 200K AGO TOOK CARE OF THE SMELL

I have noticed since my exhaust has come apart in front and behind the muffler, if the wind blows just right I smell it inside the truck.

Might want to check yours out for leaks? #ad

Never have had a problem with fumes... even with windows open... check that exhaust system... Good luck,

Adding to Greg R. There is also a bleed screw just above the filter on the line to the inj. pump. This one weeps once and a while.
If its exhaust, just as everyone else said, check all the clamps and connections from the turbo to the muffler.

I had a slow drip at the housing joint on the injector pump. Tried to replace the O-ring myself, but ended up spending $325 to get pump rebuilt. That got rid of the smell until my supply fuel pump started leaking. Replaced it; no more fumes.
