Diesel Generator?

I've been looking at getting 2 honda eu2000's, like the fact that they are quiet.



Wouldn't mind having a diesel generator and then could pull fuel off of a tank in the back of the truck, ie share the fuel.



Found this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4367738699&category=29520 and price is not bad but HOLY CRAP the db rating is like 85?



Anyone know of a diesel generator that is reasonably priced that is somewhat quiet?

You may want to check your local Cummins shop. They deal/make Onan generators. They make the 7. 5 KW diesel generator. CC Ski-Doo here in AK has a 39' Fun-Mover with one on it and you can barely here it... Of course he can power the entire camp ground when he's there, nut that's another story.

The price look very good for a diesel. ENGINE SPECIFICS:

Yanmar is a good engine, but i not sure what Yamar design means.



The Oman unit run a lot more money.



Read the details, about starting wattages, I did not see the batterym but it mention stater.



A diesel nice as you can run red fuel which is 50. 70 cents a gallon cheaper than over the road fuels.

In Austrailia we had a Kubota 5KW unit. It would run the lights and two small windoe AC units plus the refrigerator and one burner on the range top. two burner and bang the protective ciruit breaker tripped.



It was great has we had 4 days with out power after a cylcone (hurricane up North) It used about 10 gallons of Diesel a day.

You may also want to consider a propane generator. I have a Generac propane in my Lance cab-over camper. It is also very quite.

I did look at hardy, what do you think about their 5. 5 gen for $1695? It's probably pretty loud and that's what I don't want.

I think the other possible downside to the hardy 5. 5 kw is the weight, 270 lbs. That is fine if you are going to mount it and leave it but that thing will take 2-3 guys to move. But then again for $1695 I think it would be worth your time to send them an E-mail and see if they have a db rating on that thing. Good luck.

The Hardy Diesel 5KW is shown for $1495 in thier catague, also it can be had with nice fuel tank base too. Theire also some chinese, God forbid, in the 15-33 KW around $5-6K for the whole house.

Find out where the Ebay one is made. I would worry if it was made in the Peoples Republic of WalMart (aka China).



You dont want to buy from Fook Yu manufacturing.

I own a "Yanmar design" diesel generator. You can hear that thing from two counties over when running. It has been reliable for the last two years I have owned it, but I would NOT take it camping with me unless I wanted to irritate (and get shot) the neighbors.



It ran 3 straight days after Ivan hit Gulf Breeze, FL. All the neighbors down there knew it was running!
