Ok So my truck recently was in the shop and had six bad injectors. I sent them to F1 and got Flux ones. When I got my injectors back I had my mechanic do a vavle adjustment. When I got my truck back that was a distinct knocking sound, almost like the old big blocks with headers when they developed a leak but a little more metallic sounding. They say that there is not exhaust leak, but I am not sure. What else could this be? It makes this noise stock, with the pda and with the smarty. I think I heard this noise before, but I dont really remember and since they brought it up I am constantly thinking about it. Do you guys have any ideas as to what it could be? I dont wanna screw up my engine and be out anymore money than I already was for the injector job. Oh yeah I dont really hear this knocking when I rev the engine in park but i can in neutral and drive and reverse. seems to increase in speed as the RPMs go up. Thanks in advance guys, I hope i was thorough enough if not ask me more and I will try to elaborate.

You say the truck had six bad injectors. What were the symptoms with the bad injectors? All six injectors don't fail by themselves at the same time. They usually need some help like dirt or water. How was the determination made they were bad?

Are your symptoms different with the new injectors?

well we did the kill test and 2 failed so instead of waiting for the rest to fail I sent all six to don m and he told me that they were all bad with the exception of the one new one that was sent with the original 5...

I cant really hear it under load becuase the engine noise itself drowns out the sound but if i am travelling through a tunnel with the window down i can still hear it...

Hmm... IMHO, that somewhat rules out injector noise since a load doesn't make it worse. It might not be a bad idea to have someone preform the injector kill test though. I'm inclined to say it's valvetrain since it does go up with RPM, but gets drowned out with a load. Is there a chance your mechanic didn't get something adjusted properly when he did the valves?

That is really strange that it doesn't do it in park though... Knocking is one of those things that's really hard to diagnose over the internet, because a knock to some is a ping/tick to others. Does it sound like somebody taking a hammer to the block, or does it sound like someone taking a small screwdriver and tapping it?

more of a clicking so i would have to say small screw driver... also it does do it in park... i heard it today when i was messing around with it... .

Is it a cracked flex plate? They can sound like that. I usually say it sounds like spark knock in a gasser.

That sort of depends... Assuming there is an injector problem, you may not notice any major preformance issues until the injector is about to give up the ghost completely. When a solenoid is about ready to quit, they will sometimes miss the pilot injection event. I'm not sure how framiliar you are with the injection system, but your 2006 injectors fire three times. The first one is called the pilot injection event. If the injector misses that one, it can cause some noise, depending on how severe the injector problem is. The injector can also be a little slow and be injecting fuel too late overall. There's a bunch of possible if's/or's/and's/... .

Having said all of that, I seriously doubt you've got an injector problem since you just got them back from F1. I would be looking elsewhere. If you can't find any problems, your oil level isn't rising, and you have no preformance issues(mileage, more/less smoke, power, ect), I personally wouldn't worry about it. Is there a chance your engine has been making this noise for a while, and you are just now noticing it? Reading on TDR is an incredibly valuable thing, but it can make you a vehicular hypochondriac. :-laf People usually only post when they have something wrong, so you start worrying about all of the things that could potentially go wrong, and you loose sight of the fact that the overwhelming majority of these trucks have been running without problems.

Pull the air breather off and listen through the intake. We had one tapping and were thinking valve ajustment and found a cracked rocker arm. Just an idea be real easy to take a listen. Might just need the valve ajustment checked again.

Ticking could also be due to the CP3... these pumps are not timed to the motor, so when the gears are put on at the factory, sometimes the "cycle" of the CP3 is not in time with an injection event in a cylinder, and can make a ticking sound. Take off the access hole for the CP3 gear, remove the nut on the gear and use a puller to pull it off the shaft, rotate it 90 degrees and reinstall it. See if that helps.

We just got our F-1's back also, and our truck now makes a really high pitched whistling noise under any load. It is preceeded by a dry air sound in the cab. Just started after the injector swap and I can't put my finger on it. And sporadically I am getting rough idle and knocking. I don't know if this means anything or not.
