went to work today, no problems. get in truck to leave work, start it and smell fuel ? finish smoking my cig , get in truck and notice that seems to be idleing just a litte rough. shut truck off, cycle key 3 times and no codes. start back up, idle is at 750 rpms like allways, thought maybe time to change fuel filter. a few miles from home noticed idle was a little rougher ( about 20 miles ) . get it home, change filter, fill canister with p. s. , start it up still rough idle, shut it down , cycle key 3 times again still no codes, start it back up, drive it like i stole it. thought maybe had carbon deposits and wanted to clean it out. truck didnt have to much balls, and wouldnt seem to clear out, turbo didnt seem to want to wind up ,came back home , still rough idle, flashed key again 3 times and p-0524 code came up , (oil pressure too low ). still smelling fuel, i pulled the dip stick, and have fuel in my oil. about 3 inches over full, and i checked my oil 2 days ago. i need some serious help from you guys. what to do? truck is an 05 with just turning 34000 on it.

Any mods?

Take it to the ******* by way of tow truck or watch level closely.

I typed in s t e a l e r and it ***** it out.

That's a funny one to have a filter on.

with that much fuel in the oil, what exactly did it do to the motor ? motor doesnt even sound right. alot queiter than normal other than a tinny knocking sound

Probably not much. At my friends shop he has seen at least a dozen fords, 3 chevies and now 2 dodges with at least 1 bad injector. One was so bad the oil was coming out the breather, thats how much fuel the fords injectors poured into the motor. All ran fine after repairs (new injectors) and an oil and filter change.

what makes an injector go bad ? have used the edge box off and on but hasnt been hooked up since the middle of summer when was advised because of no gauges. truck wasnt beat on then or now. allways had it on 1 just for fuel economy management.

You cracked the injector body. Most of the failures are on boxed trucks because the higher pressure puts added stress on the injector body.

but if injector was cracked it would have not have lasted this long. since begining of july ? they dont crack on stock trucks ?

injectors have been known to crack with out any power adders at all. they just crack more often when power adders are involved. but you have a cracked injector body. do not drive the truck!

dealer checked truck, said it was the #3 injector that let go. just wondering if their is any other damage because driving the snot out of it before code came up ?

So what company makes the stock injectors for our trucks. In my case I have a 2006 CTD? If it's a common occurence, I hope they don't replace with the same type. Who knows now adays.

You don't have a choice, there is only one CR injector available and they are Bosch. Tips are the only thing that can be different and is frequently changed. :)

I feel your pain. A month ago it took mine to the dealer with the same problem and I had two bad injectors. #3 and #4. My truck is stock and they failed at 16000 and I am careful where I fill up and run Diesel Power Service with every tank and change fuel filter with every other oil change. Good Luck

is there a chance that i will have a problem with the other injectors, or other parts of the motor because of this problem. like i stated in my first page i really hammered the truck and just thought it was a dirty fuel filter or carbon build-up. this may be premature but should i be looking at getting rid of the truck, the reason i bought it because of the reliability of the motor. and dont want to have to deal with any problems later. i do alot of trips with the family durring the winter up north, and cant afford to be stuck with 2 young kids and a trailer on back. . this is the best truck i've ever had and i've had them all . would hate to get rid of it.

My #3 injector broke at 15000 miles. I had, and still have the same concerns as you about the engine. Now I have 30000 miles and have not had any more problems. I do not want to get stuck any place with my trailer and family but what can you do? Trade the truck in and lose money? My truck is still under warranty for 40000 more miles. Your truck should still be under warranty also.

Below are pictures of my rear bumper. The oil under the truck is what dripped off the bottom. I have one more picture in my gallery of the back of the truck covered in oil. I would up load that picture to this post but when I try it says I have already uploaded the picture?

I think you and I had a conversation about this a few months back. You stressed and injector with excessive rail pressure and now want warranty coverage right?

It's very difficult to say. The engine is probably fine, given the short period of time it was run with all this diluted oil, even though you worked it hard.

These engines have very wide main and rod bearings, and a lot of them. That promotes durability, of course. They're pretty tough, but it's impossible to tell how much (if any) damage was done running it diluted.

Only time will tell. The good news is that if a main or rod bearing goes bad you'll probably hear it loud and clear for a long time before the engine locks up.

we did have a lengthly blog on installing gauges if i was running the edge ez and your whining about warrant claims rising the cost of the new trucks, running the box roughly 6 times and not towing or beating the hell out of the truck should not have killed an injector. box was allways ran on #1 which only gives 25 horse and 40lbs of torqe. used it to see what would get with mileage. and just so you know hardwick i would gain about 1. 5-2 mpg. if truck was abused i would have no problem with what happened but thats not the story. dont turn this thread into one of your rants.
