I saw an injector cleaner with cetane boost at the local parts store the other night called Diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost made by Power Service.

Has anyone used it, & does it really help performance to boost the cetane rating of the diesel fuel?

Thanks,

Troy

DO us all a favor, and use the seach utility using "fuel additives" or "Diesel Kleen" - it will save us from yet another loooong repeat thread on a subject that's been covered here repeatedly...

With all due respect, you don't have to read or participate in a thread.

"With all due respect, you don't have to read or participate in a thread. "

And ALSO with all due respect, IF new members of this group would do the basic homework dictated by common courtesy to other users, and READ the site FAQ, and then do even the SLIGHTEST research *before* asking a question, many constant repeats of issues already thoroughly covered in earlier discussions would be avoided!

How many times must we see stuff like, "which oil is best for my engine?"...

OR, "who builds the best aftermarket automatic transmission for our trucks?"...

OR, how much load can I safely tow with my truck?"...

This stuff is ALL easily brought up using the search feature, using words like "oil", "GCWR", and "aftermarket transmission" - it's all been discussed here MANY times - as has the subject of all the commonly available fuel additives...

Only thing more annoying than a rehashed, retreaded thread, is a mouthy newbie who resists what is intended and offered as a helpful suggestion - and "with all due respect", no one was forced to read THIS reply, either! ;)

Soooooooo, which oil IS best for my engine? Sorry had to ask.

Anyway, I like to see the old subjects brought up every once in a while. I did my homework, but not all the answers are there.

Hey Silver Ram, Diesel Kleen works for me. First tank I used it I actually got worse mileage, then after that it went back up.

I really didn't intend to get into an argument with you but your comments have me a little flustered. First of all, I am not a "newbie". I've read TDR since 1995. I've also owned one of each generation of Dodge Ram with a Cummins diesel. Second, technologies change and sometimes there is new information... therefore, just because something was discussed in the past does not necessarily mean that a repeat discussion wouldn't bring to light some new information. Again, if it bothers you to see repeat discussions then I would respectfully suggest you just pass over them and not participate. Others may enjoy a repeat discussion with a new twist to things. You are probably one of those types that thinks he knows everything. I happen to be a service engineer for a major vehicle OEM as well as a master ASE tech, who also happens to enjoy learning from the input of others in this forum--repeat discussions included. I don't always agree with everything and sometimes I chuckle to myself when people comment on things that obviously they don't know anything about, but I would never riducule them the way you came across in your original post. Have a good day.

joeyou,

Dint mind Gary- He seems to get his ox in a crawl alot from what I've seen on the forums- especially if you disagree with him- I'm with you- If we all ha time to do 30 minutes worth of research before we posted, we would probably have to quit our jobs during the day, or ignore the family at night. BTW Gary, do you ALWAYS search the topic before you post to enshure that it has NEVER been talked about before?

Hey Gary:

1)How many beer cup holders will fit in my truck??

2)If I put a 24" lift kit on my truck, will I still be able to park in underground parking garages??

3)How many Budweiser neon signs will fit in the windows of the truck??

4)Is it possible to install a Kegerator in the cab of my truck??

5)I would really like to put a Helicopter landing pad on the roof of the truck, think it will support the weight??

6)I was thinking about reworking the transmission to where I have 5 reverse speeds and one forward speed. Good Idea huh??

Now I know these are everyday common questions that have been asked by hundreds of TDR members, but when I tried to search for all of the answers I could not find answers to any of them. Anybody's response to these questions that have been asked soooooooo many times will be really helpful!!

By the way Troy, I've been using Diesel Kleen & Cetane Boost for about 6 months in every other fill up. I seem to notice more smoke from the exhaust when the additive is in the tank as compared to the off tank. I'm going to try a different additive.

joeyou... Notice that Gary has moved into our friendly little neighborhood. Heard he got the Welcome Wagon franchise in Canyon City.

jrhodes... . did you send him? Clever post, btw.

Silver Ram..... I have tried most of the additives. Seems that I remember that Amalgamated (do an additive search with due respect to Gary) actually has some data showing the cetane numbers for various brands, including their own, obviously. Don't think any brand stood out with very high numbers. I'm trying some Redline 85 plus right now. They claim pretty high cetane, but to tell the truth I can't tell any difference between them, Standadyne, Howes, Power Service, Amsoil, etc. I do believe they all provide additional lubrication for the VP44 so that's what keeps me motivated.

Edit... . just 'umembered, the Amalgamated stuff is in a former TDR magazine article. Don't know which one.

Gary,

Is this different than listening to all of the whining due to VP44 failures, that seems to take up a lot of room around here?

Just because someone asked or answered a question 2 years ago, doesn't something hasn't changed. Technology changes all the time, manufacturers make product changes all the time, I have done searches on items in the past & haven't always been able to answer my question.

If this should be an overwith subject, why aren't VP44 failures a no-no like the great oil war?

Head light harnesses were another one. Everyone covered NON-SPORT trucks, but I own a factory SPORT.

I only recently re-joined the TDR because things seemed to have lightened up a little. I also know you can overlook posts or threads if you don't want to be involved. Don't answer if it bugs you. Maybe they need a section for senior members can talk & let the newbies ask their questions.

As RussW1911 said, not all the answers are there.

Gary

Sooo, this must mean since TDR was started to now that everything has been discussed, and therefore this site is no longer needed,,,,, SO lets shut it down we have all the questions answered. Make it a search archive and no more interaction amongst members. We don't need these bothersome pesty posts and rehash of new and old technology/ideas. I'm with you hang'em all, I'll get a rope.

Sorry, just a little sarcasim. Really, this is just a way for people to interact, don't bring emotion into it. It does not look becoming on you, you sound intelligent but the emotion does not set well. There are several guys who post on here that I could just crawl thru the terminal and choke them, then I realize that is not a technical reality and calm down and laugh about it to myself. Boys will be boys, ect ect ect.

Don't be fooled into thinking that all newbies are newbies. They may be the same book with a different cover!

I've been using it, and I like it.

It's available a lot of places around me, priced pretty reasonable too.

Eric

BTW I havent camped at any wally worlds yet, but I'd try almost anything once. Oo.

Not to get "tooo" far off the subject but does anyone know what the new "wonder" ingredient is in Power Service? Their bottles have a new look and it has something like:

"Now with Slick oil technology"... . or whatever. I thought at first it was "Slick 50' they were adding but it doesn't exactly say that.

Mike

I just returned to this thread after skipping it for many days - in full anticipation of the many bleats and whines of the lazy few who deeply resent the slightest suggestion they waste space and time when they ask others to do the homework they are entirely capable of dong for themselves - especially when they have as many professional credentials as the guy who started this thread...

Seems sorta strange that the very guys who CLAIM to "not have time" to research their own subjects of interest, seem to have PLENTY of time to senselessly whine and cry here when it is suggested they at least make a feeble attempt to find stuff on their own.

Grow up guys, learn how a board like this works - and what archives and resources it offers - then USE those resources instead of hanging on the shirttails of others. OTHERWISE, it's much like attending a large group meeting, and having a steady stream of late arrivals constantly interrupting the meeting to ask questions on stuff that was thoroughly discussed in depth before they arrived - then get all flustered and insulted when that fact is pointed out to them!

THERE - *that* should stir the pot nicely and generate lots more "helpful" info...

OH, and *I* use the PS Diesel Kleen stuff myself - it is made for warmer climates - the other PS "fuel Supplement" stuff has more anti gelling conditioners, and is for colder climates - but then, THAT was also discussed here in earlier threads as well...

NOW, I'll go away for a while again, and let things simmer... ;) :D

OK, I'll bite. . . where's the section for seniors? Not that I particularly mind reading newbie stuff or even repeaters. I'm just older, just happened. . . I didn't want it to, just woke up one morning and looked in the morror and said to myself who's that old fart looking back at me. I know I'm older cause I don't care much for noise now, and could care less about lift kits. In fact if they were giving them away for free accross the street I wouldn't get in line to get one. But one thing I'm noticing now that I'm older is everybody seems to want to tell everybody else what to do and how to act. When I was younger I was taught to mind my own business, unless someone was a treadin on me or mine to leave them alone. That's what I was taught that America was all about. Well, found out it's all a bunch of crap. . . that the government(s), my neighbor(s) and due to the Internet now seems everybody wants to tell me what to do and how to act. Unfortunately it seems to be a high percentage of my generation doin this. Well I'm a telling you, get me a seniors section so old men have someplace to ramble on bout nuttin. After reading this someone may see the need. BTW I use Howe's and can't tell any difference. But I feel better bout it.

Cheers,

Steve J
