Who has been around long enough to identify this motor??

No prize, just the glory... . :D

I'll start with one shot...

Well, either Nick and I are both right or both wrong. Time will tell.

Ding, Ding, Ding..... You both win!!!!

Only the second 6V-71 that I have ever laid eyes on.

Mid-mounted in a Pierce Fire Truck.

Space dictated the use of the V-6, I assume...

Mike. :)

Dang, late to the party again.

Hopefully there isn't too much stuff the tech has to lean over.

Does any one know the intake valve lash for one of these babies?

The 6V's I was around, which were very few, were in GMC Brigadeer 10-12 yd dump trucks were 6V92 at 300 hp not 238. The 6-71 was 238 and the 6-71T was 250 hp.

Early Flyer buses used them, early 70's rear mount in backwards with hugh 2-speed trans, torgue drive first then it locked up. IHC used them in first 2000D Loadstars not popular but there. Laurie

I gotta' say that I missed the "intake valve" thing the first time through sitting here all bleary eyed sucking coffee. . :D

Very good... ... ...

Kinda' like the old "Do you stock a water pump for a VW Bug???"

I've had that tricked question "pulled" on me before... . it makes one stop and think for a second and quickly form a mental picture of the internals of the engine. :-laf

Ok my turn:)

If the left motor mount receives the torque driving forward and the right side in reverse... . which side of a remote mount auxiliary transmission case carries the torque... ... in under? direct? and overdrive?

If it was "Cat" yellow I could have answered what series of diesel engines it was.

Yep, that engine in the photo was disguised painted red. Detroits were painted light green for years until the Silver 92 series was introduced. After then it was silver.

We always joked the new silver paint was a special sealing paint that sealed in the persistant oil leaks on Detroit engines. :-laf
