Come on. The oil industry is gouging us and we are bending over like good little boys and girls and taking it up the yahoo. Gee, I wonder why diesel prices are staying lower in most areas.

Not to start a nuclear fuel war, but there are differing views on this. The following is an excerpt from a column by economist Walter Williams a few years ago:

http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/williams070500.asp

"The bottom line is U. S. oil is in plentiful supply. Our dependence on imported oil reflects the power that environmental groups have in Congress to stifle domestic oil production. That benefits OPEC immensely, and I wouldn't be surprised if OPEC nations were major donors to environmental groups. "

*snip*

"Your state legislators might pretend they feel your pain, but they love revenue. When gas prices are $1. 00 a gallon, they extract 30 cents in tax revenues; when gas sells for $2. 00, their take doubles to 60 cents.

Here's my bet: If Congress were to announce the ending of restrictions on domestic oil production, there'd be a fall in oil prices and the crumbling of OPEC. "

if you traveling around the usa. I have found a web stie that pretty much gives a good idea on the fuel prices for the most truck stops and its up to date prices. I drive tractor trailer and it is more so improtant know some what where to fuel ,good luck to you all its getting tought out here. This is the web site www.dieselboss.com its got a lot of info you can use and its free!

$2. 11 Here..... I hit the $50 CC Limit a month ago (debit has a $30 limit at the station I use). Its funny how the station blames the bank for this limit and the banks blame the station. Local TV station did a report on this and it turns out its the company that processes the transactions that puts the limits on it.

My Conspiracy Theory Contribution:

I bet that we will see prices fall sometime in late summer so Bush can take credit for correcting fuel prices and try to get a few more votes!:D

Up here in the land of the screwed you would be really unhappy. We are at $. 62 per litre that is 4 X 62 = $2. 48 add exchange @ 30% & we are paying $3. 22 U. S.

Sure glad I am not driving a gasser as it is $. 95 in some parts of this country.

Hang on folks, it is going to get alot worse

DCaswell: DIdnt your exhange rate math go the wrong way? $1 Cd = $. 70 US. So 2. 48Cd x . 70US/1. 00Cd = 1. 73US... ... ... ... ... ... .

Just read in the WSJ today that crude is expected to go up again, possibly hitting the $40 a barrell. Doesn't look like much relief. I feel for those who make a living hauling goods. I heard the diesel prices in Cali are forcing alot of independant truckers not to work. I heard that some truckers are intentionally jackknifing their rigs on the freeways to cause traffic jams. And others are driving 15mph side by side across all lanes to create a traffic nightmare. NiceOo.

Paid 1. 54 yesterday. For once in my life, I can say--" Its good to live in Jersey". Please let me bask in the moment... we dont get too many perks here!!

In my previous post I said 2. 11 (this mornings price). Driving home, they out there changing it from 2. 18 to 2. 21. TWO price increases in one day. . !

$2. 65 has been on a sign at a Chevron for the last week or so in the middle of the West side of L. A. Wouldn't EVER dream of filling up there. $. 20 more than Premium ($2. 45) at the same station!!!

Hi Gang!

I agree with all of you that gas prices are high. However, I think we are all not asking the million dollar question. . (Here Goes)

No matter what the gasoline prices, DIESEL only costs about 1/3 to produce, and is basically the inexpensive by-product that comes from the gasoline making process... I believe this should mean the cost per gallon of diesel should only be 1/3 of gasoline prices, No? Somebody help me understand why in many cases lately, diesel is even higher than premium gasoline! I have worked in a refinery for 30 years... We don't make gasoline and diesel at my plant, but do similar processes including bio-diesel. .

Help me out here, Marty
