Clutch going out???

There is a formula relating the price of a gallon of gas to a gallon of crude, I can't remember the exact figures, but what did stick is using that formula with a 2. 50 per gallon price a barrel of oil should be in the neighborhood of $95. 00. Where is the extra money going? Didn't I hear something about oil companies reporting record profits? Hmmm... ...

Don't forget that both the Feds and State governments tax the h*** out of every gallon of fuel sold. In Washington State the State tax is getting ridiculous. Diesel also has a higher tax then gasoline. How the State ever got the voters to approve an additional $. 13 a gallon more tax, a year ago, I'll never understand...

RJOL, your in Washington, thats how the state got the voters to go for it! I've never seen more regulation in any state! One of the things I do is low voltage landscape lighting, Washington is the only state I know of that requires a license for that, which is contrary to federal law!

Fuel tax

Correction, federal gas tax is 18 cents per gallon, It's 24 cents per gallon per diesel fuel for 7 or 8 years already... they stuck the extra 6 cents on I believe to clean up the environment or some bs...

Our local newspaper printed an article on two local fellows that were making their own biodiesel for their own vehicles and two weeks later they were contacted by the federal or state tax people and told where to get the forms to calculate and pay their proportionate road tax... Some service station owner sob must have turned them in.

Don't steal... the government doesn't like competition!

I paid $2. 85 Thursday, but now I need to run this tank out so I can pull my Aux tank out to install the camper...

steved

I paid 2. 79 2 days ago and that that sucked since 3 days earlier it was 2. 59. I don't know how you guys out on the west coast do it. Thats just one more reason I hate going to CA. Though, I can cross the river to Ill and its another $. 20 more than here.

I think the BIGGEST reason for ALL the price increases for Diesel as well as Gasolene is simply MORE PROFITS! They say it is supply and demand, but when was the last time you went to a station to get Diesel and there was NONE? There is plenty of Diesel around where I live, and it goes up 8-10 cents a gallon every 2-3 days, and has done for several weeks now! Day before yeasterday it whent up . 09 cents overnight!

ANd the "Sinclair" fuels which advertise as "AMERICAN" Fuels, is always . 05 more per gallon then Exxon across the street!

Ponder this. Back when diesel was $1. 35/gal. the oil barons were making $30 million in profit. Now with the average price per gallon around $2. 80 and up the profits are $40 billion. Supply and demand? NO. The hurricane? NO. It is greed plain and simple. Greed is the only reason, they can't go back to $30 million dollar profit after all the executives like the one from Exxon need those huge retirement packages.

The Reason Gas And Diesel Prices Are Going Up Is Simple, Because It Can. the Only Checks And Balances Are For The Poor Not The Wealthy. this Is Only My Opinion And We Know What Opinions Are Like.

Vaughn long time no see I hope you are doing well.

Ya I am still around, every once awhile some thing gets my blood pressure up and I post.
The up side to high fuel cost is maybe alternative fuels and energy maybe it will get a hold just that much faster. Hopefully thats the silver lining in this cloud we are in. I have been involved with a outfit in Blackfoot Idaho that have been making hydrogen generators for cars and trucks that is starting to show a lot of promise.

Hydrogen , need electricity to make it cheaply, Nuclear Power, doubt it.

Corn: Use more fuel to make it, food prices go up, yea great idea.

Coal gasification, good idea, not allowed , Tree Huggers again.

Drill for more Oil, why didn't I think of that, OH, Forgot, need to be a 3rd rate country, dependent on Foriegn Oil,

As POGO Said, " We Have Met the enemy, and He Is Us. . "

I have a hydrogen generator on my 2000 trans am I have gained 1 1/2 to the gal. In town, at least it a start. They are also working on solar power to generate hydrogen.
Necessity is the mother of invention. narrow mindedness never got any one any where.

Actually, if you eleminate the farm subsidy and grow crops on all that land the government is paying farmers not to farm, yeah it may take fuel to do it but you would also be cutting back on government waste.

Before the election, Maria Cantwell, senator from Washington State was all over the oil companies because of the high prices. The republicans who were in power (and probably in cahoots with the oil companies). shut her down. Now that the democrats are in power, we havent heard boo from Maria or any of the democrats. I would like to know what happened here.

Interesting post. Anyone looking for our spineless politicians to correct this problem are barking up the wrong tree. We already pay the lowest fuel taxes in the industrialized world. The enemy is indeed us. I am prepared to pay whatever the market will bear. I'll sell my truck if I can't afford to drive it. Professional haulers and other folks are the real losers here. They are truly stuck with the high costs and have difficulty passing these on. This is a complicated issue that is way outside of my sphere of influence. It's worth noting that energy analysts consider the REAL cost of fuel to be about $15. 00+ a gallon. This actual cost includes the billions in tax dollars that are used to prop up the third world countries that we must keep stable in order to feed our thirst for oil.
