Wow

Whats up with Diesel prices right now? There seems to be a growing differential between unleaded and diesel prices as of lately. A year ago unleaded was always higher than diesel. 2 months ago the prices seemed to be about the same. Now, my wife is filling her exploder for $1. 30 a gallon and yet I cant reputable diesel for less than $1. 44. Anybody have any clues on this?

One word will answer part of this: Location. Usually in SE Iowa, diesel is pretty close to 5 cents cheaper than gas, at least while I was back last time it was like that.

It has to do with the season of the year. They have to "blend" or "winterize" the fuel. Translate, gouge the consumer. When I lived in Ft Collins, I always got fuel from a station on the way between Loveland and Ft Collins on 287. Yup, make you pay more for fewer MPGs. Sounds like a steal to me.

PS- diesel has been 1. 39 all summer here; summer fuel still not as good as the winter stuff out there. Mom and I gain 2 mpg out there.

In the winter, some of the fuel goes to the fuel heating market, driving prices up too. The airline industry also has a effect. When air traffic is high, Jet A is in high demand and competes for #2. Of course, after all that, there's still the oil industry gouge factor.

I'd gladly pay $1. 44 even if it was higher than gas. The cheapest I can get it in the Syracuse area in $1. 57.

I just hope I don't have to pay $2. 05 again this winter like I did last winter.

up north of the border here in the greater toronto area, i am seeing diesel prices ranging from $0. 589 - $0. 639 per liter of fuel... in canadian pennies
