Weight capacity of wheels?

I presently have two Dodge Pick-ups. On old 92 with 265k and an 01 with 30k. I have pulled our 5er all over the country with both trucks. I presently am looking at a Monoco motor home that has the cummins in it. Does any one have experience with our faithful cummins in a motorhome?

Not much help here but my brother has one. I cant even tell you the name except it is a big one 40' with triple slide. I think he told me it grosses out at around 28-30k. It has the 8. 3 in it with a large allison auto transmission. He says the only problem he has with it is that sometimes it gets to running hot sometimes on certain long steep grades. He felt it was more with the way the alison and he were shifting than the capacity of the cooling system. He says it has plenty of power to motor that thing along. If I recall he told me it will get him going as fast as he is willing to go.

I spent some time in a 41 foot Travel Supreme, beautiful and loaded. It had the Cummins ISL 400 hp 8. 9 liter engine in it. We were getting 10 to 11 mpg without even trying. Anyone who owns a motorhome will tell you there's always something that needs fixing but the Cummins motor isn't on the list.

Make sure you have the coach checked out thoroughly, get an extended warranty on it if possible. Almost everything on an RV is expensive to replace/repair.

A buddy of mine that I race with has a '94 Santara by Fleetwood (34') with our trusty little 5. 9 in it with the Allison 4 speed . Unit is a bit weak on the hills out this way , but considering it pulls a 28 ' enclosed trailer behind it and weighs about 30k all together it does damn good!! :D Oh, and the best part , imagine having a 300 HP vibrator right under your bed!!

I too am recently in the market for a 38-40' diesel motor home. I am looking at the Fleetwood Line, between 170-225K. I am still learning about them. I am also looking to tow 10k plus. Most RV's with the Freightliner chassis are coming with the ISC 350-400 HP I have heard good thing about them, however that is mostly dealers. I am going to Florida Thursday and shop for a used one with little to NO miles maybe an 02-04. There is a guy who has a Fleetwood dealership in Montana that has his marked down 50-70K and he is the one I am shopping against. It tells you the mark up on them. I am leaning toward's the Fleetwood Revolution line. I like the vacuumed sealed side walls and interlocking Aluminum frame. Alot of coach for the money. This guy in Montana has it listed for 229K and selling for 162K. Please let me know if anyone has a better deal going. You can also get a Cat 330 HP this is a great motor also. I was told that it performs better off the line, almost sporty handling? Who knows?

From someone (not me) who's been selling RV's for 25 years: Fleetwood was having serious quality control issues a few years ago. You might want to take a look at some of the other coaches like Monaco, Holiday Rambler, Travel Supreme, and Beaver.

If you pick up something a couple years old you'll save a ton of money. Someone else will end up paying for the lion's share of the depreciation.

Anything with a Spartan Mountain Master chassis and Cummins ISL would be at or near the top of the heap in ride comfort and handling.

I had a Monaco 8. 3/Alison 6spd. No issues with drivetrain. Juiced up to 400hp from 275. It was a 93 but our travel nature was to pull up stakes and move all the time. If I were to set still for a while the MH would be fine. Had a 93 Cobra 5. 9 pusher we called "Satan" because it was built before required drug testing of employees.

I am in a 04. 5 3500 with a BigFoot camper. It is our RV. We can park anywhere and the windshields tend not to fall out. Gravel roads do not destroy the engine compartments and cooling systems are well engineered. Slo-Ryde's opinion on good manufacturers is agreed with by me. With my camper I am "there" wherever I am. With my MH I was always looking for an RV park. Lifestyle thing. Good luck! George
