Lemme throw something out there. Just for discussion sake.

If the popularity of diesels grow, that will mean more diesel vehicles on the road, which will mean a higher demand for diesel fuel.

Would this mean higher diesel prices as well?

I would think that the percentage of diesel powered vehicles and equipment sold to individuals would have to be considered to make a guess about the affect on diesel fuel prices. Especially considering that a private vehicle does not use near as much diesel fuel as a commercial vehicle.

It would take a lot of Dodges to burn as much fuel in a year as one Peterbilt.

Diesel production would have to be increased. The 30% fuel savings from that same person operating a gas powered suv ought to free up some crude to turn into diesel instead of gasoline. They will have a glut of gasoline if they dont reconsider. You start with the same base crude. Its their decision what they will make out of it. Diesels have grown 500% and Im not feeling the pinch yet. Mostly its still cheaper than gasoline.

The oil company wont like that their customers are using less fuel.

Also looks like dodge is looking long and hard at medium duty production. Including the 4500 and 5500 light mediums. They might do what ford did with international. Dodge body on a freightliner chassis.
