I have been collecting WVO for awhile, but often there is a significant percentage of heavier animal fats mixed in that leach out of chicken and whatever else the deep-fry in the oil.

I can't use the stuff like I can in warmer weather (I usually mix 5-10 gallons per tank of diesel after filtering twice) because it starts solidifying by 50F and is pretty thick at freezing temps. Has anyone done the Diesel Secret package on this heavier stuff before? Does it thin it down or help break down some of the heavier fats so they don't solidify at cooler temps? Or do I have a load of WVO that's only going to be useful as biodiesel material or mixed with diesel in warm weather?

The thing I have found on that is to filter the oil when it is cold... like 50 degrees if poss. I did this and the white junk is about non existant. . trapped in the filter... .

Well the stuff I have won't filter worth a darn at 50. I heat it to about 120 degrees and filter it, but of course at that temp the fat is liquid and goes right through the filter, then resolidifies as it cools.

Hello

I don't think it will run on that unless you heat up the oil to 160 deg's you might try filtering it with a 1 or 5 micron filter to see if you can pull the fat out of the oil if it changes at 50 deg's thats going to be hard to run.

I had done all the mixing and primary filtering when it was warmer and yes it did melt and then when it cooled, you saw the fat in it... .

AFTER I did the filtering for mixing and stuff, I waited til it was like 50 degrees, ran the 2 pumps and filters Per the DSE into containers .....

Now the flow is pretty slow because of the 1 micron and filters getting clogged but when you look at the finished product even when cold, there is NO white fat on the bottom... ... THEN, I mix it with diesel in the tank... ... 25 degrees here in Salt Lake City and so far, at 25% mix, it is doing fine.
