diesel shootout

Has anyone seen the website www.pickuptruck.com and read the diesel truck shootout? They compare the new dodge angainst the new ford and chevy. however the dodge the used has 4:10 gears and all the others are using the 3:73 would that have a significant disadvantagfe to dodge while pulling a trailer?

Check out the difference in curb weight of the trucks. That would have a significant impact on the performance. The Dodge is way heavier than the others. For the test to be accurate the same gears and GCVW's would have to be used.

4. 10 gears are better for pulling a trailer. Lower gear means quicker spoolup of the turbo. You also get into the Ram's torque curve at 1400 rpm's. That will get the trailer moving better. The weight is the only disadvantage.

The test doesn't serve those who pull. Pulling isn't necessarily about winning a drag race. Our wider power band will make for much easier towing , we wont have to gear down all the time when we see a hill and of course there's the longevity of the CTD too.

With the 4:10 gears would you would run a lower or higher RPM?

Just remember every 100 lbs equals a 1/10th of a second in the quarter mile. So it would put the dodge close to or out in front of the Ford and Chevy The rear axle could make a difference since you do get quicker spool up but when shifting you lose boost and it would make you shift sooner so more times to loose boost.

What I wonder is, when perfectly knowlegable diesel people do a comparison test using trucks with different axle ratios and weights, and don't correct the results to allow for the differences, is the only reason they do the test to publicize themselves, or one particular product over another?



They can say all they want to about "they didn't provide the truck we wanted", but the test remains bogus until they either match the vehicles, or weigh the results to even the playing field.

i have often thought about why the comarison companies dont use the exact same trucks when doing a side by side test. the only reason that i can come up with is that they want to show the viewers that each truck comes with different features and also if they used the similar trucks then one would most likely stand out from the others. thus causing a decrease in sales for the auto manufactures that lost the battle. this would force the auto manufactures to better their machines but would hurt sales for a year or so. those are the only thing i have ever heard and can even think of.

I wonder which one or those trucks would pull the 12000 pound trailer the most trouble free miles. Thats what i am looking for . And i just invested in the dodge.

Thats rite, besides, if they got 735 H. P. from a Durapiepan they wouldn't of had enough aluminum left after the melt down to form a Budweiser can!

They need an apples to apples compairison. besides the only differance i saw was a truck lenght thats pretty good when you have an extra 1000lb on your back and 6 short gears with 410 axle
