Diesel smell in cab, I checked it..........

I have an '04 built in Nov '04.

I was annoyed by the diesel smell at idle in the cab. So I checked the same thing this guy did.

and I found the same thing he did, the holes on the driver side of the cowl are wide, I did the same fix he did except for taping the edge of the cowl. We'll see how it goes. I'm going to try and find out from Dodge if these holes are open for a reason or open by mistake. I'll post what I find out.

I've been curious about this. He's not blocking the air inlet vents for the heater/AC is he?

interesting thread. i will be checking mine tomorrow, as the fumes get in my truck almost immediately after stopping.

Transport Canada has contacted me and is probably registering here. They are seeking ALL trucks with this problem. They registered on the DTR and are asking about trucks there now. The dealer invited their assistance as DC was not giving them any help.



I did the cowl fix... no help. I put 8 ft of heater hose on the breather tube back by the fuel tank and no help. It is just slightly better but after owning 24 of these trucks, this one is the very worst and its even worse then the one I had running with just the down pipe for a couple days.



I really get peaved about putting duct tape or any tape on a new truck.

I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure the air needed for heat/AC is sucked in from the top of hte cowl, just below the windshield

Alright this is getting old. The smell in the cab (mine only when parked and running) seems to be apparent with a bunch of us with the '04 trucks. What's the fix. The dealer claims no knowledge or complaints and of course wants the truck to check it out. Over my dead body will they be touching my truck without me at least completing due diligence and self educating on the problem.



If anybody has found a fix please post it. Has anybody trusted their dealer enough to let them fool with his/her truck and find the solution?



DC are you on top of this one? Let's see the TSB ASAP.



Unexplained noxious fumes in a cockpit are an immediate red X item and a TCTO is in order (ex USAF guys will understand this).



Let's get it fixed before someone passes out at the wheel and press on with the next challenge.

This is not "normal for a diesel". DC needs to address this... .
