Diesel smell in my cab *IS* diesel!

I had read here and been told by other owners that what I'm smelling is likely to be "stuff" burning off my new engine, or that it is from the blow-by bottle. Well I finally crawled under and there are drips of diesel all over the place from about the injection pump on down; even some on frame members on the other side of the engine. I know you all "love the smell of diesel in the morning", but certainly getting it this way can't be normal! I guess it'll be going in to the dealer after the holiday. Bummer.

you have a leak. You shouldn't smell raw diesel. Or see it for that matter.

Hate to tell you this, but unless you can find the leak and fix it yourself, get it to the dealer. Diesel fuel raises h*ll with certain rubber parts. It turns them to mush over a peroid of time. When fixed, spray wash off the eng. and all other exposed parts. Use a detergent before washing off. Chris

Do you have any idea how long the period of time is? There is some likelihood that this has been leaking for 2-3 months, but to a lesser degree than it is now. I'm worried that there will be all sorts of problems in the future as the rubber parts begin failing.

Dan, look and make note of all of the rubber that was exposed to the fuel. Rubber fuel lines are generally exempt from deterioration. Things like radiator hoses, frontend bushings, body rubber supports are vulnerable to contamination. Have the dealer replace them if you can convince them. The rubber will get slick and mushy. You should have corrected the problem immediately. Be a hard a$$ with them. Chris
