Rant about "parts stores"

Citizens arrest stupid people? How to do it?

Clinton said it best: "This is among the best threads the Other forum has ever seen. "

I like to think that at least 50% of what I post or attempt to initiate is valuable... . :D

The other 50% is usually just me having fun..... and trying to make sure other folks are.

"Roll on big Momma" by Moe Bandy and Joe Stampley. I love when they go through everywhere they've been and what they've seen. All the Merle Haggard trucking (and traveling) songs. To me, it seems I enjoy the message in the songs about traveling not just in a rig but anything that gets you there. Which leads me to Bob Seger's "Roll me Away" :)

From my small CD collection. Some of these tracks have been mentioned before in this thread. I always enjoyed this CD back when I was driving cross-country a lot.

George Thorogood does the best remake of Dave Dudley's "Six Days on the Road," in my opinion. Also, don't forget "Highway 49" by George Thorogood. The word "diesel" is not in the lyrics, but it's a good "road" song. It's nice to see there are some George Thorogood fans out there, but I can't believe that no one mentioned "Truck Drivin' Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd!!

Neil Young, one of my all-time favorites, has a great song; "Southern Pacific". Of course, it is about trains, but to hear "the mighty diesel whine" over his guitar is inspiration for a smoke-out.

Chris, that is an awesome song! Do you know if they ever put that album ("Re-ac-tor", 1981) on CD? I downloaded that song off the internet, but I'd love to have the whole CD. I believe I saw that song on a Neil Young boxed set collection, but I wasn't about to pay that much money. To me, the long howling, descending note sounds like the cooling fans on the dynamic brakes when a train is going down a grade, trying to hold back the weight. I always liked that howling/whining sound.

BTW, here's the lyrics to that song:

Down the mountainside

To the coastline

Past the angry tide

The mighty diesel whines.

And the tunnel comes

And the tunnel goes

Round another bend

The giant drivers roll.

I rode the Highball

I fired the Daylight

When I turned sixty-five

I couldn't see right.

It was "Mr. Jones,

We've got to let you go

It's company policy

You've got a pension though. "

Roll on, Southern Pacific

On your silver rails

On your silver rails

Roll on, Southern Pacific

On your silver rails

Through the moonlight.

I put in my time

I put in my time

Now I'm left to roll

Down the long decline.

I ain't no brake man

Ain't no conductor

But I would be though

If I was younger.

Roll on, Southern Pacific

On your silver rails

On your silver rails

Roll on, Southern Pacific

Roll on, on your silver rails.
